My Mazamet

Life at № 42 by E.M. Coutinho

Shattered.

Late last night, as I was going to bed, Rudy started twitching. A strange affair, like electric shocks going through his body. This developed into ever bigger seizures/strokes. A while back when he woke up and couldn’t walk and was confined to the homemade “prison”, the vet warned us the problem could be more grave than a simple pinched nerve. And so it was.

He was in and out of consciousness through the night. We all stayed together on the floor of the red room.

None of us could sleep. The vet said there was nothing that could be done – and by this morning Rudy was gone. He will be greatly missed. I’m utterly shattered.

It’s a pain impossible to express.

    Safe travels, Rudy.

To you, I’m sure he would have said, “Thank you.”

I was born a cat person and now am living with a small dog (the owner of which is my partner). I did not understand how dogs can worm their way into our hearts …. and now I do. I cannot imagine anything bad happening to this dog and now I find that your story reads as a horror story, when in the past I just shrugged it off.

I am so sorry for your loss. No one or no animal lives forever and we have the solace of all of the memories we create together, but at the time I expect it is devastating.

Going through that with Ruby and losing him is just heartbreaking – at least he knew you were with him when he was conscious, not that that is much comfort to you.

It is tragic. All one can say is condolences, and recognizing the pain will pass.

I know what you mean, and there’s an even harder one to watch: Denali: A Tribute to Man’s Best Friend By Ben Moon

It’s shorter, runs through the life of Ben, the dog, how they both got cancer, and then, when Denali says “It’s time.” I won’t post it, but look it up. Beautiful, and shattering.

My deepest, most heartfelt sympathy and condolences. Losing a beloved companion is always hard but to have gone through such trauma before the vet could help him on his passage is devastating. I am so, so sorry and I send strength to you at this shattering time in your life. Go softly.

Damn dogs. I won’t own another one. They rip your heart out when they die and leave it to wither in the wind.
