– That took five minutes to sell, which is a rather good sign for the strengthening market of the area. Asking was 470 EU which is 580 US$ (at today’s exchange) as the euro is down to the dollar (as compared to a few years ago.) It’s an amazing house for that price even if the garden is compact.
– Family has come and gone. We had a fabulous time. Winter hosting is much more physically tiring than summer hosting. Tablecloths, napkins, crystal – as opposed to sitting outside at the marble table which requires very little dressing. I think they had a good time. I got necklaces for the girls (mostly because there’s a jewellery shop called Julien d’Orcel between the house and the supermarket with cute and inexpensive things) and a giant black pepper thingy from the market for Sam. We did one meal in, one out, every day, and made sure not to let them pay for anything. Isn’t that what gay uncle’s are for?
And Sam sketched Morgan and called it Morgan on the Forbidden Chair- for obvious reasons.
Was that for a one month rental? Or are you talking in thousands?

Such a lovely house too. I wonder who’s bought it. It would be an absolute bargain to a Brit. Rubbish plastic 4-bed, double garage new-builds with no garden worth mentioning cost between £459-500 K round us. Glad you had a jolly family time.

I know! One of the girls in the pictures lives in Bristol and was telling us a 1 bedroom there is going for around 250!

Things in the UK have become deeply silly – and not just house prices.

We have a single (and very indulgent) Auntie in the family — oooh, do the grandkids love her!! Ya done good, Mr. M!!! Glad you still have a grin on. . . 🙂

It’s very nice to get to know them again. They used to spend their summers with us in Spain but then they grew up and went off to have their own lives, and now that they’re settling down and starting families they’re back 🙂

I was thinking that too. Clearly there’s a bit of talent going round. 😀

We miss having all the young of the Belgian tribe visiting us in the summer….but one of the reasons we moved was that they were growing up, starting their own families and we were rattling round in the house. Now their young are starting to come out here to see us ….but only in ones and twos rather than en masse as before.

This was the first time they’ve all come here together, which was nice, but considerably more work than in ones or twos! Careful what you wish for 😉

They used to come in large groups…but seemed to amuse themselves pretty well without more than minimal input from us….food, drink, suggestions as to visits….luckily.

Just being gossipy here, how many were there?
How many nights did they spend?
Is that Mike, the last pic, the guy to the right of the person with the yellow rain coat?
Generally I agree with you, gay uncles should kind of pick up the tab if they are in a financial position to do so, however it would be very very nice if the guests figured out a way to return the favor just once, either in house or out on the town. Guests need to say thank you too.

Just the niece and nephew + pregnant wife. Mike’s brother was coming too but I think the kids wanted to come on their own.
They’re incredibly nice, and always bring gifts and try to pay for things – we’ll let them one day, just not yet 🙂
