Exercises in Sophisticated Theology™: Is Gin a Girly Drink? A Refutation of The Pink Agendist | Truth and Tolerance

The following is an excerpt from Refutatio et Exscidium Hereticorum by St Remy of Aquitaine (1150? – 1205). Book Four is De Spiritus which concerns itself with Angels, Demons, and Alcohol. In Question 14, St Remy takes up the thesis, Is Gin A Girly Drink?

To some heretics, it seems that gin is a girly drink, fine for summer evenings, but otherwise to be avoided by men.

The heretics make the following arguments:

Objection 1:  Women drink gin. Therefore gin is a girly drink.

Objection 1- from the earlier post re the behaviour of prostitutes: are we to assume from this that Boris Johnson’s wife drinks gin before taking up station at Waterloo?

what is DP trying to do with his post? I confess I’m not getting it.

I do like gin, but it has to be the high end stuff. I am partial to Bluecoat from Philadelphia Distilling. It’s not so junipery.

I don’t get it. Who is lifting up the bottle to check if it’s a girl or not?

For myself, it tastes of soot and poo, (don’t ask), so tis moot a question as I can’t really say, though I am a girl (probably).

    • Hi, Mary
Thanks for stopping by 😀 I’m in love with the hydrangeas as well. Nothing beats hydrangeas if you want to brighten up a shady part of a garden. I actually got another four of the Madame Emile Mouillère variety (bright white) last week. I think that by next year the garden will be looking very, very interesting.
