Andrea Leadsom thinks men shouldn’t be employed to look after children in case they’re paedophiles

New Cabinet minister Andrea Leadsom has warned it would be sensible not to employ a man to look after children in case they are a paedophile. Leadsom – who was recently appointed Environment Secretary – insisted parents needed to be cautious when dealing with childcare.

Yes. And we shouldn’t trust British government officials with State secrets. Some have been known to leak them…

I think the UK has had a lucky escape. Seriously frightening that a senior politician of any party could a) hold such a view, b) be so dim as to say it to a journalist! Ignorant, out of touch, dangerous, stuuuuuuuupid.

Not found very much to be proud of in being British in the last month, thanks to small-minded people like her.

How foolish. We had the same discussion over here recently after a horrible case of several kindergarten children being abused, including the rape of a four year old boy.
Luckily most people gave their support to all the non abusive male child carers out there. Any efforts to stop abuse should be aimed at both genders.
My brother worked in a kindergarten once when he was young. He was the most popular person there. The kids loved him. It would be a shame to deprive kids of men to look up to. It’s important for kids to see that men can be caretakers as well.

I think its absurd that she is advising parents to be careful with men in child care. Doesn’t that mean the male parent shouldn’t be left alone with kids either? After all, most cases of abuse is inside the family so there’s a much greater risk that the father will abuse the child than the sitter.
