One dining room, many kitchens. Design changes.
Slight change of design plan for two of the two bedroom flats… the kitchens are going to be white lacquer.
Instead of black Friday in France the soldes (sales) start on the sixth of January and go on for two weeks or so. Anyway, the manager of the kitchen shop told us that if we bought one of his fully equipped display models (at a 40% reduction), he’d give us a second one for the same price. So we spent the morning loading, carrying and unloading. Now we’ve got two kitchens sitting in my dining room.
The countertops are a slate grey colour. Fridge/freezer are integrated which makes for a much nicer look as the kitchens are open to the living room. We’re also adding bar/tapas tables for a bit of extra storage and counter space.
This is the point where a project starts getting really exciting (for me.) Moving from paper to reality. It’s also when one finds out if a concept really works 🙂 So far, so good.
The one bedroom is slightly delayed, but should be done next week. The shower room is petite but looks really great. The kid who’s moving into it is thrilled. He actually went to Mike a few days ago and said he could increase his rent payments by €50 a month once he moves in. That was fantastic; it reinforces the theory that if you make an effort for people, they’ll make an effort for you too. It’s also partly why we decided to go ahead and get the higher quality white lacquer kitchens.
I’ve got the feeling we’re going to end up with a really excellent property.

I like that colour scheme. 🙂 And it’s fantastic that you already have such a nice tenant. Long term it’s the quality of the people that determines how successful an investment becomes and it’s clear you’re already there.

We were definitely lucky with him. He’s more enthusiastic about his future apartment than we are 🙂 That makes the whole experience immediately more interesting. Every time something gets put in place, there he is smiling in the doorway.

A good tenant is worth his weight in gold. He obviously wants a home, not just somewhere to rent. You are all fortunate.

And he’s only 19. He’s doing an apprenticeship of some sort. He told me what it was, but I was trying to figure out colours at that precise moment, so I wasn’t really listening. Anyway, he’s very sweet.

I’ve been looking at the RSC website recently to see whats on, so spotted the logo, then thought it looked like him (I saw The Racing Game years ago….& also On The Black Hill, which was superb).

Watch out for Tony Sher’s Lear! The Fool is the wonderful Graham Turner- who I’ve referred to on the blog as Chimney Sweep 🙂 Once upon a time he was a B&W minstrel, he’s been down many stairs with Carol Channing, and he’s excellent at everything he does! Well worth watching.

OOh yes please. We love Tony Sher, seen him in several things at the RSC & the Crucible at Sheffield. He’s very modest too, 7 charming. We used to be members of the RSC, which mean a few weeks priority booking over the general public & we’re thinking of joining again – it’s only 1 1/4 hrs drive on a good day.
Do you deal with Mike’s letters too? I do that for my husband – he only sees mail/email concerning the car, as if I don’t deal with it he ignores it all.

Yes, I deal with everything. When we met he had a desk with about 500 unopened envelopes… and an email with over 1500 unopened messages. Letters, gifts, cards, thank you’s, food, taxes- that’s me 🙂

My favorite parts of your blog are the remodeling articles. I like the political ones and the philosophy ones but my favorites are still the remodeling and decorating articles.
I have learned a lot about a different materials and methods by reading your blog.
I know you are big into your gardening, shrubs and flowers but I mostly enjoy the installation pics and information of putting in the new lawn for example. And the stone edging of the driveway, what you picked and why. I think a huge transformation will be when you repaint the shutters so I’m hanging in until that makes it to the top of your project list. It’s really fun to watch you transform it, and you still have far to go so I look forward to many more articles to come.
