My Mazamet

Life at № 42 by E.M. Coutinho

The end of summer in Mazamet

And what a wonderful time we had. Discounting the heat, of course. That part was appalling. Having resisted air-conditioning all these years, we finally gave in and installed one in the red room.

But enough with the pleasantries, Mike is back home! The surgery was successful and they removed all of the cancer. Now we wait 4 weeks for the hormone test (PSA) and we can then finally relax. I feel like I say that at least once year: then we can finally relax. It feels like it’s just one’s self, but I’m sure there are many more of you out there waiting for news too.

And so, upwards and onwards. To beat the anxiety out of myself I’ve been gardening, and dedicating myself to trying to sleep peacefully. In fact, sleeping is my goal in life as I’ve spent much of it doing it badly.

Sorry, I’m just not in my wordiest of moods these days. Talking, typing, is almost painful because it forces one to confront things like perishability and so forth. My apologies.

So to end on a positive note, there are plates, beautiful new and old plates at number 42!

Ooh. I thought I’d read about Summer Girls and music playlists, but no. Serious business. I hope all continues to go well with Mike. Keep us posted.

Oh Pinky that’s wonderful news!!!!! Please give Mike a huge hug and tell him I consider him to be almost family. As for you, I know you must have been going out of your mind with worry so breathe my friend, breathe. 🙂

You don’t have to type. Just show us photos of your dazzling home, grounds and locale.
OK, you can type if you wanna.
Maybe winter will be mild and full of wine, broccoli and ripe cheese.

excellent news! Gardening is a solace, I must admit. we’ve also resisted air conditioning, but now have one in the bedroom, and one in the den/office. We are lucky in having a house that is well oriented when it comes to the sun.

May ask, Pink, do you still ‘dose? I’m venturing in that direction with some gardening, albeit inside.

Thank you! And less so. I found my insanity needs four corners. Dosing increased confusion whereas Ketamine is my bff 🙂

Glad to hear Mike’s surgery went well. Mine was 1 year ago last month and all has been well since.

I’ve been thinking about you both recently, & it’s so goos to hear Mike’s surgery went well. A very scary time for both of you. Fingers are crossed that the next test results are good too. Sending hugs from very chilly Nottingham.

Such a tease! (So to end on a positive note, there are plates, beautiful new and old plates at number 42!) But no photos. And the news about Mike is good, so far! Keep an eye on him! :o)

I’m keeping an eye on him to the point he’s annoyed 😀 And here’s the picture, the news are the hydrangea plates by Sophie Conran.

Nice work matching the band of color in the plates with the side dishes! (At first it looked like platinum but looking closer …) And they date to?

Sweet! I gave up on such fineries because when I broke one (not if, when; I am somewhat clumsy) I would cry. But I enjoy greatly your enjoyment of them! Cheers, my friend!

None of our sets are complete anymore 🙂 I only started being brave enough to use Baccarat crystal on a daily basis since mid-lockdown and if breaks, that’s okay.

I would like to be tough like Ivan Drago (“If he dies, he dies.”) but I am a dyed in the wool sentimentalist.

“To beat the anxiety out of myself I’ve been gardening, and dedicating myself to trying to sleep peacefully. In fact, sleeping is my goal in life as I’ve spent much of it doing it badly.” Hmmmm. This sounds vaguely familiar, though I would never say that i beat the anxiety out of myself. Still, one needs to counter the monkey mind with something. Hands in soil has always worked for me. And sleep! Good God, I absolutely love my sleep and for whatever reason lately it has eluded me. But last night I had the best sleep in weeks. Hallelujah!

I am glad Mike is home. Maybe now you will both get some good rest. All the best to you both. 🙏❤️

We’re doing our best to relax. I’ve more more or less convinced Mike to just settle down and rest comfortably instead of looking at the clock waiting to see how long it’ll take him to recover.

Hi! I meant to write to you the other day. The for sale sign is still up at Villa Ermo and and it seems nothing has changed. What a disaster! How are things in Valencia?

    Dear Eduardo,
I was redirected to this site whilst researching the career of your partner Mike Gwilym. I had often wondered where he had “ disappeared” to !
I remember him well , firstly from the RSC, then more latterly on TV in How Green Was My Valley and, my favourite, The Racing Game.
I was saddened to hear that Mike has been unwell, though pleased to learn he is back home. Would you be so kind to thank him for the wonderful memories and wish him the speediest of recoveries.
    With kindest regards

    Robert
