A Portuguese version of this post will follow shortly.
Imagine the hilarity of receiving not one but an inbox filling succession of “extrajudicial” letters as attempts to — not only silence me, but imply I have no right to use my family name. Yes, you heard that correctly. The word that comes to mind is preposterous.
The clown responsible for this failed exercise in intimidation is an individual who goes by the name Caio Druso. Someone please honk his red nose to wake him up. Orwell called and wants his dystopia back.
The events leading up to this are comments I’ve made about my grandfather’s foundation and companies. Evidently, Mr. Druso must be unaware I’m a French citizen, resident in France and subject to French and European laws. All statements I have made are verifiable. Not only verifiable, the truth being the ultimate defence to slander in international law, but also protected by the European charter on freedom of expression.
So now that that’s clear, I feel I must go much further and deeper into comments I’ve made previously. These regard nepotism which is a well known form of corruption.
My previous statement was that: Tereza Pereira, a woman with only a high school education, was given the job to administer a foundation worth over ten million dollars and which also received donations from the public (meaning this is a matter of public interest). This woman also happened to have an amorous relationship with the president of said foundation which began on or around the time of her hiring. This is textbook nepotism of the highest order.
Furthermore, this woman went on to use the foundation as if Marie Antoinette at the royal court. The standard for her courtiers was loyalty and devotion. This took the foundation on a path which divorced it entirely from the motives behind its creation. Originally designed to assist impoverished women much like Planned Parenthood in America, it cannibalised itself into something quite other.
But now back to the nepotism. Not long after my grandfather’s death the daughter of Tereza Pereira, Patricia Rudge, was installed to head the pharmaceutical branch of my grandfather’s company. A company which, when it was founded, I was given 5% of the shares. As I wasn’t contacted after his death, I now feel compelled to investigate what manoeuvres were made to transfer those shares to someone else? There’s an amusing French proverb that says, Qui vole un œuf vole un bœuf. Egg and cow rhyme in French, so the saying goes that if you can steel one, you can steal the other. If one form of corruption is acceptable, what other forms may have occurred? What other forms may be occurring right now?
Now we also have to ask ourselves what class of lawyer beneficiaries of nepotism hire to do their bidding? If history is anything to go by, the Trump team and Michael Cohen come to mind. Self-dealing attracts self-dealing.
I hope you’re thinking of hiring your own lawyer to get those shares back. They could be worth something. My guy, Guillaume Havet at Maison Eck, is very good and deals with international business transactions. And the letters really are just trying to scare you. If there weren’t a chance that you might need them in a future legal proceeding, I’d suggest you use them to start your next bonfire.

Thank you for the recommendation! I’m looking into every available recourse, one of which is obviously contacting the police and tax authorities who might want to do an audit.

always fun to watch the impotent demonstrating they are in such obvious fashion. good luck!

Extrajudicial letters/notices are such a common intimidation tactic, I find it surprising people still think they work.

well, it depends on the dumb thinking everyone is like them. And you, my friend, are anything but dumb. 🙂

Yes, they are, but also the “bar” for becoming a lawyer is low enough that any number of them are available based upon simply being able to pay their fees. No legal ethics will be involved.
Sorry to hear of your challenges, Pink, but they might also be opportunities. The Law of Unintended Consequences always applies and the next thing we might hear from that lawyer is “I am afraid I have awakened a sleeping giant.”

He certainly has awakened something in me because the letters were designed to intimidate through deception. He disregarded my location or what laws apply in my jurisdiction and misrepresented laws to make it seem like I’d done something illegal. Unethical from every angle, and certainly worthy of a complaint to whichever board will listen to me.

Wow. My life is dull. Thanks lucky stars.

I’m often attracted to dull and because of that let things slide. But then sometimes I think, no, that’s enough.

Wait… Is this happening (have your shares disappeared), or do you suspect something like that is going to happen?
Gawd, I hope you don’t have to fight this in Brazilian courts!

There is in fact someone who now holds an exact 5%, and it isn’t me. Interesting coincidence, right? I’m not interested in money, what I would like is that they stop selling my grandfather’s name as if it were junk in a gift shop. So let’s see where we get?

Are you defending the man, or the brand?

Neither. I find capitalization of this variety spectacularly vulgar.

Hope this all works out for you. i am curious to see what happens and truly hope you find a way to get peace of mind from the situation. Now, I’m off to find a rich person, convince them to be my relative, and leave me their money when they reach the great beyond. 🙂

Just started watching this show! Marvelous actors. Didn’t realize it really was true. No idea what happens, but I sure hope Anna fuck d over a bunch of rich hotels and banks and got away with it. That’d make me grin. The young actress playing Anna is wonderful. She’s amazing on Ozark, too. Good TV.

She is absolutely spectacular! The show goes on longer than it needed to, but that’s a Shonda Rhimes thing, isn’t it?

She did grey’s anatomy, right? Not overly familiar with her work. Liking this, though.

I’m guessing you didn’t want your Grandfather’s money. Fair enough, but not wanting it and having it stolen are two very different things. Sue the pants off them or whatever is most effective, get the money back and then give it to a charity that looks after homeless dogs. And maybe people.
Fight!

I could not have put better words to it myself: not wanting it and having it stolen are two very different things.
If I allow myself to be treated this way it sets a dangerous precedent. That people like me can just be cast aside, pushed overboard without consequence.

Exactly. You’re a fighter, Pinky. Don’t let them get away with it. -hugs-

Pink just sue someone for the drama. But only if it is worth it

It’s a sad waste, but there’s still time to go back to its core values. I sincerely hope someone from there reads this and understands ☺
