Brilliant Idea for Next Door + A Brussels Tapestry
And so it becomes clear. The house next door has been purchased to become a co-living residence for seniors. It’s a fantastic idea and an interesting option both for the house and for the people who will have the opportunity to live there.
The concept is there’ll be independent suites of 30 m2 with bathrooms and kitchenettes. The rest of the house and gardens (including kitchen garden) will be shared.
The co-ownership package includes the suite, and in co-op style, 30 m2 of the communal areas. The price per suite is approximately the price of a 2 bedroom apartment in town. More info here.

In other news, we’ve been hard at work. I can’t remember if I mentioned it but the pastoral tapestry that was upstairs has moved to Spain to live with a ducal family. In its place is now a brightly coloured Art Nouveau period piece with stunning colours –
… and we had a quite fantastic find recently which was a Teniers tapestry which is a version of this piece below but with a different arrangement of cartoons. Ours has more sheep, an added donkey in the background and less men.

Of course, you and Mike now have to *discover* Scandinavian death metal rock, with strategically placed 80 inch speakers.

The place is also conveniently located so people don’t have to drive. There are restaurants, shops and services all in walking distance.

The price for the suites next door sounds very good, you’d never be able to get anything at that price over here, Obviously there must be extra costs, but well worth it to live in a beautiful house, and have 2 charming neighbours. I love the Art Nouveau tapestry .

Yes, I think it’s a fantastic concept. They’re installing an elevator, which means they can dedicate the two top floors to suites so they could easily fit 10 to 12 suites in that space. That leaves the whole of the ground floor as common areas.
I love the AN tapestry too. The colours are happy, which is very unusual 🙂

I got most of the advertisement, and it sounds a lot like some of the independent living ‘retirement villages’ we have here. Except that here, they’re purpose built, and mostly not that attractive [architecturally]. I’d love to end up in a place like the one being proposed next door to you.

The architecture makes all the difference, doesn’t it? I mean, people would be proud to be a resident in such a lovely property whereas those purpose built places are usually cold and clinical.

Kitchenettes? I hope your fire insurance is paid up in full. The embers from that conflagration will no doubt drift like the memories of dementia victims being roasted alive. Tapas-stry, mmm, tapas. Wha’cha cookin’ these days? The aroma of smoke made me wonder.

It’s not that sort of home! It’s for older people, but who are still able to function normally. The idea behind these places is to offer a supportive environment so people can be independent for as long as possible 🙂

It’s a fantastic idea, and the price sounds fair – should be good for the neighbourhood stores too, retirees have money to spend (unless the charges spiral out of control)! Nice tapestries!

A plain studio around here costs in the region of 50, and that’s with no extras; So a place with airs of a boutique hotel scores very high in comparison 🙂

Luckily, I am not a control freak so on the whole it is working out, except that I have to trot up the road to see why water is running from it into the finca having pointed it out to Danilo and getting the response that ‘it would do, it is going downhill’….but I shall have to take Carlos and a spade to get it sorted. Let water run now and later in the season we shall have a canyon forming.

That is a stunning tapestry…beautiful colouring. I live half an hour from Aubusson and feeling a bit peeved it’s all closed due to Covid. Let’s hope France resolves its vaccine crisis soon.
