Lights, lights, lights in the garden! Absolutely wonderful. There was one thing I missed terribly about Spain and that was the ambience at night. Particularly in the garden at Villa l’Africaine. Every night, as soon as the sky started to change colour the lights came on and it was magical. We’re not quite there yet, but it’s a good start.
In another corner of number 42, a Kashmir silk rug has been incorporated into the decor. The rug in the red room was tired. Exhausted, to be honest. It had endured many dogs and many accidents and it was time to let it rest in piece. As the TV is in the red room we wanted something warm and comfortable. The panels design is based on Persian Bakhtiaris, but in Kashmir they make them in silk, which is more pleasant to the touch than wool.
And finally … drum-roll please:
An Andre Vivrel of what looks like Cap Frehel, but doesn’t quite match so it’s somewhere else up there. The colours are spectacular. I also love the sky. Not sure if it stays or goes so let’s say for now it stays and may eventually go.
Oh, yes, work has finally begun on Summer Girl n. 2’s bathroom. Super exciting. The tiles are hand made Spanish with a celadon type crackle glaze. Gorgeous.
The lights don’t attract clouds of insects? You do lead a charmed life!

There are some insects around the lights, but nothing terrible. I think when we work with beautiful things, buying and selling them, in my case, that sets a certain tone. They’re what gives that charmed polish to everything in their vicinity.

I’m a terrible hoarder. Left to my own devices I’d keep *everything* 😀

Those lights make such a difference…the garden is alive even when the sun goes down. You’ve made me decide to put lights on the slope beyond the pool to give some magic to the view from the balcony at night. Many thanks!

Garden lighting can really transform the feeling of a house. A window facing the black of the night closes in a room. Add a light in the distance and immediately the eye is drawn out further giving the impression you’re in a bigger more open space.

Get a talking face projected onto one of those trees, then invite people over… and don’t mention it. Don’t even say you can *see* it.

So, you’ve mentioned the wine cellar, and we’ve seen some of the rooms and the glorious exterior, but what of the provenance? Who died in that home? What great political future was scratched with ink and feather into vellum? What crimes did the grounds witness?
Did Napoleon’s own Josephine’s second cousin stab the groomsman while he schtooped her in the kitchen over last night’s quiche?
“I told you, your crust is soggy, and I just can’t tolerate soggy crust.”
“My crust is soggy? Well, yours is just plain flaccid.”
Should we make them up? Start a legend?

I’ll give you a bit more history in my next post. This is a town with a fascinating story.

Fun! Love the lighting best! I wish we could have more outdoor lighting, but the insects here would be a huge problem, unfortunately. I do love it though, both outdoor lighting to feature the landscape I have so lovingly crafted an indoor lighting to do the same for the interior, obviously! And dimmers, dimmers, dimmers! 💕

What if you tried solar powered lanterns not too close to seating areas? That would keep insects at a distance 😊
I’ve been experimenting and the solar lights work very well by small bushes and also tree trunks.
