My Mazamet

Life at № 42

Not a great day

On a clear day one can see Africa from this terrace

Annette Glasmacher, interior designer and former director at Chanel, has died. I spent the day trying to get my head to stop replaying images of her, her terrace, her house – and the millions of conversations we had deep into the night.

I went with my childhood trick of being very, very still, all day long, because that makes it feel like I can stop everything; time, emotion, sadness. I feel like a whole part of my life has been taken, stolen. I hope someone remembers she wants the Callas version of Mon coeur s’ouvre a ta voix played at her funeral.

The sadness is important for you to feel. That is for you. I hope you can appreciate that she lead a good life which is the very best we can ask for. In the US, sadness is almost forbidden. Anyone expressing it is almost shamed into emoting something else. Sadness is an emotion just like any of the others and we create them, so experience your creation. And enjoy the memories of your friend.

I’m so sorry, Pinky. -hugs- The music is beautiful, a fitting tribute to a special friend. Samson & Delilah is one of my favourite operas too. Be well my friend.

Think of her with love; and remember the lovely things that she created and the spaces that she blew life into.
That’s the best requiem for any soul.

The song is beautiful, & one day you’ll be able to listen to it without too much raw sadness, just loving the memories it produces. With luck, she will have made her funeral wishes known & this specific song will be played. I am arranging a funeral at present (elderly relation of my husband) & just as we were wondering what sort of service she would like, we found a a letter giving very specific instructions, which is making that part a lot easier. I’ve also written down my funeral choices. (being organised, I like planning ahead, hopefully it will be a long time ahead). Sending you big hugs. xx

    Wow.

People die, but art and writing lives on.

Sorry to hear, sweetie. It’s always hard losing the good ones. Especially when the mean ones seem to live on and on. Good memories for you, though, cold comfort though they are. Aloha ❤

We met our Aussie family in Hawaii, then came here (down under) for two months. (Hubby went back in November). I’m heading to the airport today for my 26-hour flight back home early tomorrow morning. These grandkids keep us busy!
Hope you are keeping well! 🙂
