We’re still waiting for the moulding that tops off the wainscoting (aka chair rail), and then it’s mostly details. In all I’m pleased. It’s got great light and a welcoming feel.

It is beautiful, if a bit awkward. Having a commode next to a fireplace is a first for me.

There was no other way to organise the layout because of plumbing.

I assumed that, but plumbing can be changed … of course, in a house that old it would be ruinously expensive. Actually, I like quirky houses, too often people strive for cookie cutter perfection, which is boring.
Our houses are one of the few ways we can express ourselves as artists (and occasionally as craftsmen) and should be accepted as a form of personal expression.
Living in a home you find beautiful is a gift, having others appreciate it as well makes it divine.

Lovely job. And I know all about accomodating bloody plumbing. We have tweaked ours and added to it where we can, but there are limits of course.
I am trying to work out the floor covering, is it just painted/varnished boards?

Getting around the whole loo in a cupboard thing they’ve got in France is annoying, isn’t it? I found the idea of having to leave the bedroom to use the loo at night terribly annoying.
For the floors, we decided to treat it more or less as the exterior of a boat. We filled the gaps. Tinted, sealed, lightly sanded, then repeated the process, and now we’re ending with a matte varnish (called Silk) by Sikkens (not the best name for a brand, but I promise they’re excellent products!) đ

My original and then only loo was in a cupboard right by the front door. Honestly.
Good to hear it’s a matte finish. I don’t do glossy floors or paintwork, it’s a nono here.

We had four, but only one upstairs where the bedrooms are. Figuring out how to add more loos without destroying the ground floor was a pain. especially because we didn’t want to go down the Saniflo route.

My own bathroom is entirely black and white, mostly white, so I love the colour scheme here and the floor is spot on too, the whole thing is light and airy, and the plumbing issue has given an added bonus â somewhere to hide! I like a hidey hole in a room. The moulding will finsih the whole room off nicely. Lovely job.
