TERRIFIC! Finally, some fucking sense has taken hold in the Western world! Man, this is just what I needed to hear after the Republicans in the U.S. House decided to decimate health care for, well, for everyone but themselves.
Excellent. What a relief. If another right-wing wacko had won, it would not be good. Maybe, just maybe, the tide of sensibility and compassion is returning to the Western World.
I am pleased for you. Here, though, it seems we are cursed to a continuation of the last seven years’ weak, chaotic and destructive “leadership”. In May 2015, I thought, “Oh God, five years of the Tories! Still we will kick them out in 2020.” And Mme. Le Pen did better than her father, I think. I wish M. Macron well.
I often wonder what it must have been like to watch it in the theatre for the first time in 1943 before we knew what the outcome of the war would be. Must have been quite powerful because, as you said, it’s still damned powerful now.
Like the recent American election, both choices were flawed. At least France had the sense to take the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately this evil is still on a neoliberal, anti-labor, pro austerity track.
We end up celebrating a mediocre choice because the other was so flawed. The same would have been the case here had Clinton won election.
He’s highly educated and from what I hear from people close to him, his heart is firmly on the left 😉
I think there’s a chance we’ll be pleasantly surprised. He was after all the only French minister who tried to step in and ease the burden that was being imposed on Greece.
Vive la France !
Vive la France !
Vive la France !
My first reaction, and my sustaining reaction was one of relief, France is safe for 5 years.
I just saw on Twitter today a Tweet by Le Monde that 38% of practicing Catholics voted for Le Pen.
At the time of the next election, that will be just about 10 years with equal civil marriage for sexual minorities, so I would think there will not be a rollback.

I spent the day on edge, sort of holding my breath. Now it’s starting to look like his numbers might even creep up 😀

YAY! no last minute reversal – Macron’s done it. Vive la France. She started it and I’m thrilled that she hasn’t gone the path of the US and UK.
