From Venice to Florence to Mazamet
… Finally settled on a mirror for the entrance hall. Not as nice as the blue glass Venetian version from the other day, but attractive nonetheless. This one is Florentine. The size is great. Anything smaller would look dinky. I know because I tried.

The mirror and its headpiece look married. Were they created to go together?

The bottom section was created to house the (older) carved top section. Originally, the bottom part would probably have been a simple rectangle.

Now these two look like they go other. The other clashes, to my eye with the smooth curves and straight lines in the mirror and then the ornate topper. But then, guaranteed to be a conversation starter!

I must have bad taste Pink, as it just doesn’t look right there to me — doubtless I’m entirely wrong, so apologies.
What’s this about photo quality? Are you saying they won’t allow you to include a hi-def image in a post? My last post featured a 10Mb image and I really want to be able to do that. In fact, nearly all my images are in the 3-7Mb range.

There are no rules on what we *must* like 😀 Once it’s hung and the blue porcelain is moved to the dining room, you’ll see the look I’m going for.

Funny you should say that, Mr. M. The first thing I thought when I looked at that display (and I love the blue, by the way) is, “If I took the grandchildren in there, I’d have to watch them like a hawk!” 🙂

I’m also restoring the gilding which has disappeared from the bole clay on the bottom section. There’s method to my madness; everyone just needs to be patient!

Is it propped up at the moment…or do I need to change my specs? Upright will improve it…for me..and I’ll be keen to see the restoration you envisage.

Yes! I just set it on the dresser to have a good look at it. The portrait is my great-grandmother from the French side of the family.

I very much like you collection of blue porcelain, but the tall thin one on the right is scaring me, it’s narrowness and height makes me feel that the slightest knock would be the end of it! Eeek!

No! No cake! I weighed myself and I’m 72.4 kg. That gives me a BMI of 23 which apparently is “normal”, except of course, it isn’t. So no cake for me or anybody else. Ever.
