My Mazamet

From Venice to Florence to Mazamet

… Finally settled on a mirror for the entrance hall. Not as nice as the blue glass Venetian version from the other day, but attractive nonetheless. This one is Florentine. The size is great. Anything smaller would look dinky. I know because I tried.

What’s happened to the photo display quality on wordpress? To see tpictures in high resolution I have to click on the picture, then click to view “full size” which opens a new window from i2.wp.com

The mirror and its headpiece look married. Were they created to go together?

    • The bottom section was created to house the (older) carved top section. Originally, the bottom part would probably have been a simple rectangle.

    • Here’s what the bottom half would have more or less originally looked like:

Now these two look like they go other. The other clashes, to my eye with the smooth curves and straight lines in the mirror and then the ornate topper. But then, guaranteed to be a conversation starter!

        Enjoy!

I must have bad taste Pink, as it just doesn’t look right there to me — doubtless I’m entirely wrong, so apologies.

What’s this about photo quality? Are you saying they won’t allow you to include a hi-def image in a post? My last post featured a 10Mb image and I really want to be able to do that. In fact, nearly all my images are in the 3-7Mb range.

    • There are no rules on what we *must* like 😀 Once it’s hung and the blue porcelain is moved to the dining room, you’ll see the look I’m going for.

I thought the blue porcelain looked lovely just there. 🙂

      • I find it unnerving to have it in a passageway. Every time people come through I worry a handbag might knock something over.

Funny you should say that, Mr. M. The first thing I thought when I looked at that display (and I love the blue, by the way) is, “If I took the grandchildren in there, I’d have to watch them like a hawk!” 🙂

Actually, on second thought, you’d probably be peeking out the curtain thinking, “There’s no way that old bat’s getting in here with those urchins!” 🙂

-blush- I was, respectfully, going to agree with Hariod and Steve, but if you’re moving the blue glass, that changes everything. Are you replacing the sideboard as well?

    • I’m also restoring the gilding which has disappeared from the bole clay on the bottom section. There’s method to my madness; everyone just needs to be patient!

I think it looks good there though perhaps hanging slightly higher instead of leaning.

Is it propped up at the moment…or do I need to change my specs? Upright will improve it…for me..and I’ll be keen to see the restoration you envisage.
What is the portrait against the wall in the background?

I very much like you collection of blue porcelain, but the tall thin one on the right is scaring me, it’s narrowness and height makes me feel that the slightest knock would be the end of it! Eeek!

      • No! No cake! I weighed myself and I’m 72.4 kg. That gives me a BMI of 23 which apparently is “normal”, except of course, it isn’t. So no cake for me or anybody else. Ever.

Well this part wasn’t here on my first visit. Happy belated birthday dear Mr Pink! ❤

39 is nothing, you'll be hell on a stick to know when you hit forty I'm sure. Hahahahaha.

I hope you're doing ok on the tiny bits of mad shit drugs. – *nods*

    • There are 3 very narrow ones. Sometimes just looking at them makes me nervous!

It’ll look great with the bottom half gilded again!! I was worrying about the mirror slipping and knocking all the blue porcelain over…
