… if you happen to be in Paris this exhibition is worth a look. If you’re not, then look up the painter. He died at 28 and was one of the early impressionists. I love his work.

As a fan of impressionism, I am somewhat surprised to never have encountered him before … or as I am somewhat long in the tooth, maybe I did and have just forgotten. Thanks for this post.

Thanks for the intro to this artist. What a loss. The range of his creativity is breathtaking for one so young. Strong undercurrents of ‘tristesse’ I feel.

-grin- I managed to read it in French! Yay, me, haven’t forgotten everything. -cough-
And it is a beautiful painting. Really does make you wonder what he might have produced, had he managed to survive that war. Why oh why do artists go to war? Such a waste. Or should I say, more of a waste than normal. 😦

Aiming my boot at your backside here Meeks! People who don’t have an artistic talent are better off going to war than artists?

(I know what you really meant though)

Erm….no….oh god, I didn’t even think of that until just now, reading your comment. I think I need to take my foot out of my mouth and stick it where it hurts. I hope you know how much I hate war, period???

      • Yes! Also, it’s apparently okay if someone ugly dies because whenever a pretty woman dies one of the things people say is “awww, and she was so pretty!”

Yep, unattractive hardworking poor people can die and it’s not worth mentioning. Pretty, rich, pointless people bite the dust and it’s a tragedy…

You know what also pisses me off, it’s when someone who was an utter asshole dies and no one says anything but how good they were. No! Admit they were an asshole and that we won’t miss them!

Never been too good with rules!
I generally keep my mouth shut until after the funeral though… 😀

Beautiful pictures. I wish I could hang one in my living room.
When I bought a new apartment I tried to find some nice art to hang on the walls, but everything I found basically looked the same. One place only had pictures of clowns. Ugh. *Shudders*
Anything nice is too damn expensive.

I seem to remember that the Fabre in Montpellier has some kind of connection with Bazille – memory is a little sketchy – or perhaps it was a temporary exhibition?
