Pastoral Amusements

chevalfondu

Isn’t that room stunning? The tapestry you see on the wall on the left is the Cheval Fondu from the Amusements Champêtres series. It was thought to be Beauvais but is actually Aubusson. It used to be mine until it was sold around the time of the financial crisis. I love where it’s ended up and that so many people get to enjoy it at the stunning El Sitio restaurant at the Hacienda de Abajo hotel in Tazacorte (property of a man with exceptional taste, the Marquis of Villafuerte.)

The sale of the painting is looking like a real possibility if we can organise the logistics. In case it does happen, I’m going to make a gift to myself of La Bergère, which is smaller than Cheval Fondu, but from the same series. It’s already here at number 42 and was going to go to auction later this year- but I think it would look amazing above the stairs. there’s something naive and child-like about the design which I find very pleasing. Particularly how the animal she’s holding doesn’t really resemble any animal that’s actually existed. A cross between a squirrel and a cat.

That room is gorgeous. I love it when the details of a room sparkle to steal the show, anchored by the tapestry in this case. I always support you splurging on yourself 😉

The room is beautiful, but I really do like the smaller La Bergère. How old is it dear?

Quite stunning, Pinky, but I have a question – when, where and /how/ did you become so very knowledgeable about the world of art? You seem much too young still. Or is that age-ist of me?

    • Young? Probably because my gravatar picture is from Spain still. But you also have to remember my timeline is different to most. I passed my university entrance exams at 15, by 21 I was specializing and living in Spain. By 23 I was moving into Villa l’Africaine with Mike. Unlike most, art for me wasn’t a work day, it was day and night and everything in between 🙂

Oh my god, Pinky…I actually didn’t know any of that! 15? At the risk of giving you a fat head…you are a very bright YOUNG man [still].

Shame on you Pinky! You should never anticipate your birthday, even by one, solitary second. Besides, men still look good at 40. 70 and above we may have to start calling you ‘distinguished’ instead.

I’d never say it if he weren’t so naturally pretty. I’m still expecting this mind you –

If you look closely you’ll see that the creature is, in fact, Pepé Le Pew. 😉
