Already Happening: The Normalization of Trumpism – via TDB

“… Only the characteristic bluntness of a child, who proclaimed the emperor’s nudity as he paraded through the streets humiliating himself and his kingdom, threatened to break the spell. But when the boy spoke out he was quickly rebuked by his father, who assured the gasping public that the child was clearly soft in the head. So powerful is the compulsion to normalize the powerful.”

Source: Media Normalization of Trumpism – The Daily Beast

Interesting article- but that’s not the normalisation we need fear most. Yesterday I read a complaint that a reporter was offended by the use of the N word. Let that sink in. It means a reporter does not have the right to be offended by the use of the N word. This N word:

nword

Shocked? Offended? Good, you should be. Decent people who believe in ethics, civil and human rights should be offended. Why do you think we say N word at all? Why do we not even spell it out? There’s good reason and that’s why we should forcefully oppose these Alt-Right/Manosphere idiots who under the guise of political incorrectness are actually peddling racism, misogyny and homophobia. The N word is not *politically incorrect*, it’s the verbal representation of the dehumanisation of an entire class of people.

My suggestion is turn it right back on them. It’s very easy to support discrimination and marginalisation when you’re not part of the group being attacked. Sometimes people simply don’t have the imagination or empathy to understand. So give the alt-right/manosphere crowd a taste of how it feels. Of what second class citizenship is all about. Pick any characteristic of theirs that can be mocked, and just go for it. I imagine it’ll make them think twice before peddling their garbage again. I learnt that trick many years ago when someone said to me, “I’m so sorry I can’t invite you and Mike to dinner together at our house because people would know you’re gay; but I’d love to invite you individually.” My answer to that was “Don’t worry about it, we don’t socialise with people who come from the country your husband’s from anyway.” She rethought her position then and there, on the spot. It was a lightbulb moment.

    Mr. Merveullieux,

Since leftist thought brings pure hell for humanity, it is not surprising that leftists have to continually conjure up hell in order to attract the mentally, emotionally and intellectually deficient, to their evil cause.

Fortunately, in the United States, the Northern Christians put an end to the Democrat Party institutionalization of racism against our black brethren.

And in 2016, Christians from all over the United States put an end to racist horror Democrat President Barack Obama.

Poor, feeble Hillary is busy now contesting her resounding defeat at the hands of people who are sick to death of her and her criminal sexual predator husband.

        Mr. Merveilleux,

“Nigger” is a profane word like “fuck” or “cunt” or “twat”.

Therefore it should not be used in polite conversation.

        Mr. Merveilleux,

For hearing impaired, and the blind, dehumanization is what crudeness does.

It’s always great fun to watch SOM pick up his skirts and try for a dramatic exit.

As always, SOM has yet to support his claims of how “leftist thought brings pure hell for humanity”. Since Jesus Christ himself was quite a leftist (at least in some instances), promoting human rights, communistic sharing of resources, etc,, SOM’s reasoning would mean that Christianity has brought pure hell to humanity. It’s always good to also see him being reduced to attempts at personal attacks on people he doesn’t like.

SOM of course tries to lie about history again. Northern Christians were as much for slavery as they were against it; not all Christians were abolitionists and not all abolitionists were Christians. We also have the excellent historical evidence that Christians on both sides used their religion to support their particular viewpoint, showing again that Christianity is no source of objective morality. The southern Democrats were for slavery and then Jim Crow laws, and as we know, these people became Republicans, keeping their ignorant ideologies when the parties changed platforms: http://www.livescience.com/34241-democratic-republican-parties-switch-platforms.html

As one will see in the article at the link above, it appears that the change was based on the idea of how much influence the federal gov’t should have and who should be helped by it, big business (the position of the Republicans at that time, and still now), or average person (the position of Democrats at that time and still now). This morphed into a difference of opinion on how civil rights should be handled. And it became the position of Dixiecrats, who became Republicans that segregation was a thing that they supported, and that they didn’t want the federal government telling them what to do. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Democrats#New_Deal_and_after

Again, SOM is right that at one time Democrats were pro-slavery. However, that is no longer true. A typical TrueChristian, SOM must try to present long since superseded information as a current fact, and simply gets stuck in one more lie.

As for Hilary, she has comfortably won the popular vote. This indicates that SOM’s claim of a “resounding defeat” is nonsense. It’s typical for someone like SOM (and Trump) to exaggerate sizes and poo ol’ SOM is left with more unsupported claims, bearing false witness again.

There are things you know at an intellectual level. And then there are things you see and hear that make you want to throw up.
This is the racism that was NORMAL in parts of the US not that long ago. This is the racism that must not be normalised, ever, EVER again.
If you do nothing else, just watch the video and listen to what happened to one 17 year old Black American boy. Then ask yourself how good, law-abiding citizens could do something like this. The answer will shock you more than the act.

They already feel like second-class citizens. I don’t see how further berating is going to help.

    • Not enough. These are the people who think saying that black lives *matter* is controversial. Not black lives are more important, not black lives are equal- just saying they matter is so terrible to them they need to counter it with all lives matter or blue lives matter. Indulging them can’t be the answer.

Absolutely chilling. The US’s glaring Shadow. If you’ve not seen this, it’s so powerful: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BVyo5dzYs44. Bill Moyers interviewing James Cone about the Cross and the lynching tree. And we dare call ourselves human beings.

Hey Pink, a couple points if I may.

I get what you’re saying above (and I read the linked articles), but personally I would have phrased it more in line with Ms. Baldwin’s ability to control the content of her own show. Essentially, by saying it was improper for her to restrict the use of that word on her show, it’s improper for anyone to have the ability to control their own speech. At the end of the day, the visitors on her show are there at her request, and she is ultimately responsible for whatever content appears.

The second thing is that there is such a thing as overkill on making your point. While I understand the point you were making here and over on GC’s blog, nobody’s going to be addressing it very much. Instead, people were discussing how far things went. I don’t think that it helped get people to realize that free speech doesn’t excuse the consequences of all speech.

I say all of this with the frustration of someone who lives in a part of the world where most (if not all) of those images are from. There are times when I want to go into some neighbors’ yards and tear down their rebel flags. But the worst part about it is that no matter what, there is nothing I can do which will actively change their minds. Any changes are completely unintentional. In the end, all I can do is my best to make sure I don’t join them.

    • You’re right on all counts. I should definitely have focused on content control early on.
And too far is too far- the thing is, too far is the reality of people from minority groups every day. The presumption of gays being pedophiles, the presumption of blacks being thieves, the presumption of Mexicans being rapists… People like Godless Cranium obviously don’t have the imagination to grasp the weight of that- and I’m at my wit’s end in trying to find a way to illustrate it.

I also think it’s important to TRY to change people’s minds. While it’s probably true that the best thing one can do is not join any prejudicial act, I also think that one cannot just turn a blind eye to bad ideas/information. The question becomes, how much CAN a person ignore before they say/do something?

      • It’s been a very odd experience for me because it was in essence to sit and watch someone be radicalised. And I don’t use that word lightly.
For someone to go from benign general atheism to actively opposing feminism or supporting the use of the N word… well, I’m sure you understand because I saw your comments regarding feminism.
There was (coincidently) an interesting article on this in The Guardian today: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/nov/28/alt-right-online-poison-racist-bigot-sam-harris-milo-yiannopoulos-islamophobia

I know exactly what you mean.

That . . .person. . . Milo Yiannopoulos. I’ve read some information about him and he does not seem to be the sort of person who should be influencing anyone. For instance, today on FB one of my younger friends had a picture of our PM – Justin Trudeau – when he was a toddler, in the arms of Fidel Castro; his mother Margaret walking along beside. (Pierre Trudeau and Fidel Castro were reputed to be friends) The next picture is of Justin Trudeau today and a picture of Castro alongside it. With the words written underneath, “Margaret was promiscuous”. Guess who created the meme? Milo Yiannopoulos. And that sort of thing is somehow . . acceptable?. .. entertaining?. .. I find it appalling, disrespectful, and very typical for someone who is a raging misogynist. I didn’t comment on the article b/c I don’t want to draw even a meagre bit of attention to someone so disreputable. (no one else has, either)

Emma (Good Marriage Central* blog) started her series of in-depth psychological discussions of Trump back in January. She began by stating that her interest – and subsequent anxiety – was piqued by her foray into the world of the MRA. I have only read a bit of it (the toxic world of MRA’s) and I can tell you that my reaction is abject horror – to MRA’s and their sympathizers. I find it all to be distressing and alarming. However, I can certainly detect this attitude in others and I, like you, don’t like what I am reading. It simply bears ill will. 😦

Christianity has brought pure hell to humanity. True dat.
More lives have been lost in the cause of religion than for any other reason and the novel that came before the film seems to provide quotes and tag lines galore for the fundamentalists of the South to carry on giving themselves excuses for the murders of the past and all the current hates they have. Gays, women/abortion, black people. It seems those of us that don’t hate have been in the wrong for so long. It’s good you give space to THE spokesperson SoM so he can correct us.
With the KKK back in fashion ( why aren’t they an illegal organisation?) I think we’re going backwards and time travel is possible after all.
I wish I could suggest a sickness that’s claiming victims throughout the US so I could invent a novel cure like ECT for all adherents but it seems they’ve done this by choice. Did hate really run this close to the surface? How?
