What Do Trump and Marx Have in Common? – The New York Times

HAMBURG, Germany — “We have a word in German, “Wutbürger,” which means “angry citizen” — though like many German compound words, its meaning can never quite be captured in a pithy English translation. And yet nothing in either language quite frames this current political moment.

It is a relatively new expression, with a derogatory connotation. A Wutbürger rages against a new train station and tilts against wind turbines. Wutbürgers came out in protest after the Berlin government decided to bail out Greece and to accept roughly one million refugees and migrants into Germany.”

Very interesting article, so is Vargas Llosa’s commentary on it in El Pais. I tend to agree with VL. Anger as a motivator almost invariably turns into something destructive.

It is a clear and proven as fact that Hillary Clinton is a dangerous criminal.

THE Donald, however is a solid, law abiding citizen who, like many Americans is very angry at criminals like Hillary taking over the US government.

Anger at tyranny is a good thing.

Whereas, comparing a lunatic like der Fuehrer with a good man like THE Donald is pure leftist foaming at the mouth hatred.

And that foaming at the mouth hatred is exactly what powered the rise of the NAZIs.

Indeed. It seems that SOM has no idea who the Nazis were.

For everyone’s amusement, the interview with Trump and EWTN (a Catholic network) is here: http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/heres-the-full-text-of-donald-trumps-interview-with-ewtn-98883/ Amazing the complete nonsense that Trump spews and it’s quite amusing to watch him stumble with anything to do with religion. So much for SOM’s hero.

        Club,

Look in the mirror if you want to see a NAZI.

And the United States doesn’t need another “nice” guy Republican who will go out before the Democrat Party, drop trow, bend over and grab his ankles and then whimper his hope that the Democrats will be gentle with him.

THE Donald is screaming popular precisely because he’s a smash mouth brawler, not because he’s a “nice” guy.

Ah, it’s great fun to see you again bear false witness against others, SOM. No, I’m not a Nazi, and you can keep lying and calling names as much as you’d like.

Trump is indeed popular with people. Many people, like you, are afraid of very many things and you are desperate to believe someone who will promise you everything, just as long as you trust him. Trust in him and only him, SOM. Doesn’t that sound a little strange?

      • Very interesting. There’s quite a bit of literature on how authoritarian political movements have basically emulated the religious formula. Kim Jong Un is the Supreme Leader; and Evita is/was actually called Santa Evita by some.

        Mr. Merveilleux,

The terror tactics of the left are the same as the terror tactics of the NAZIs.

I believe that your severe case of personal bias make you think that your own foaming at the mouth hatred of your political opponents is justified.

Such religious, self-righteous fuehrer (Ha, ha! Pun intended) has always powered the left.

as usual SOM is showing that he is quite ignorant in many things. SOM, is a “solid law abiding citizen” one who cheats contractors? That uses donated money to benefit himself? that has married and divorced multiple times, in exact contrast to what the bible says? that profits on gambling? that uses illegal immigrants to build his buildings?

        Club,

You must be one of those brainless idiots who believe everything you read on Democrat Party websites.

Whereas, the criminal activities of Hillary are proven by emails written by Hillary and the other criminals who serve her.

        Read the emails for yourself.

        They are now public.

Nice whining, SOM, but again you’ve no evidence for your claims, just like when I showed that your economic claims about Trump were also false.

Now, please do show these “criminal activities”, SOM. Since I have indeed read the emails myself, I know you are a liar *and* that you haven’t read the emails in question. But as always, you are more than welcome to support your claims. Can you?

        Club,

If you applied the same standard to Hillary as you do to THE Donald, you would know that Hillary is co-chair of a crime family.

I don’t say that, she does. And so do the people around her.

Haven’t you been watching the news lately.

Even the Democrat Party mouthpieces, CNN, MSLSD, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, AP and Reuters are beginning to report Hillary’s crimes.

Wow, nice additional nonsense, SOM. Again, you are asked to show evidene for your claims. If you have no evidence, then all we see is one more TrueChristian bearing false witness against another and showing that he doesn’t believe his religion is the source of objective morality any more than I do.

Please show us where Ms. Clinton has said she “is co-chair of a crime family”. You have made the claim, now support it. Show us where the “people around her” have said such nonsense.

Ah, SOM, it’s so good of you to give me all of the evidence I need that your religion is nonsense. Again, it is amusing to watch you avoid answering my questions. You have another chance: , is a “solid law abiding citizen” one who cheats contractors? That uses donated money to benefit himself? that has married and divorced multiple times, in exact contrast to what the bible says? that profits on gambling? that uses illegal immigrants to build his buildings?
And you also can tell us how Trump should be trusted about his claims about economics when he cannot answer the simplest questions about them. One would also ask why he should be trusted on his claims of being such a good Christian when he knows so very little about the religion and none of his actions reflect the religion, especially the few good parts.

Oh and happy Halloween to you too. Now, isn’t it funny how the FBI has shown absolutely nothing of import despite its claims? And isn’t it funny that despite decades of trying to make claims of such supposed “criminal conduct” on Ms. Clinton, such TrueChristians have consistently failed. For people who are sure that they have an omnipotent being in their corner, they don’t get what they want so desperately. It seems that omnipotent being, if it exists, is working completely against you, which isn’t too hard to understand since it really hates lies told by its followers. Dover PA is still doing well despite the lies told by Christians that horrible things will happen because creationists failed. The west coast and east coast and Florida are doing quite well despite the claims of disaster by Christians. Your batting average isn’t doing so well.

perhaps it’s in Mr. M’s spam folder. Hopefully it will be released. But I don’t need anything more than the WikiLeaks emails. And again, no one knows what is on the new ones mentioned by the FBI since they have had them for weeks but haven’t bothered to look at them yet.

Now, again, SOM, I do want to know the answers to my questions: is a “solid law abiding citizen” one who cheats contractors? That uses donated money to benefit himself? that has married and divorced multiple times, in exact contrast to what the bible says? that profits on gambling? that uses illegal immigrants to build his buildings?

I am enjoying a Christian who cannot or will not answer such simple questions. I will guess that SOM’s answers would throw doubt on how much he actually follows the bible’s words.

A Democrat fascist destroyed THE Donald’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

Such violence against opponents typifies leftist and NAZI political behavior.

Here is another video showing Democrat Party fascist sympathizers attacking a homeless woman as she guarded the THE Donald’s Hollywood star:

Why yes, some idiot did destroy Trump’s star on a street in Hollywood. Something that good Christians like you decry constantly. As for the other video, it also horrible, if true. At this time, there is nothing to show what was going on in the video and the woman in the video has yet to be identified.

Wow, SOM, you have no idea what democrats are, or what fascists are, or what Nazis are, do you?

Now, you seem to want to claim that all democrats are like this. Shall I point out that, if you wish to make this claim, this would make Trump to be responsible for, and approving of, the people who shout things like “Jew-S-A”, who attack reporters, who say that all muslims are terrorists. Are you good with that? Shall I say that SOM must agree with horrible people since he advocates for Trump?

        If not, why not?

Thanks Pink, and yes, a decent article. I suspect his closing remark that HRC might change much at all will prove very wide of the mark. And as for saying “let’s hope Europe once again looks to America as a model for democracy.”, then there’s as much chance of that as me voting Tory. Nil. What a thoroughly bizarre statement! To return to the positive, he used a great neologism which I’ve stolen for future use: hillbillyism.

This is a really neat topic. On the one hand anger is a perfectly natural emotion, a good man should be angry about corruption. On the other, Outrage! is one of the main political tools they use to manipulate voters.
The Dr King example that both articles invoked was misplaced: one of the important things about him, at least as far as his public persona was concerned, was his lack of outrage. He and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference intentionally tried to project dignity, calm, rationality, and forgiveness, not anger.

I think you make a worthy distinction between outrage and anger. The former is out of control rage, while the latter can be funneled into sharpened focus and clarity to deal with a dangerous situation in a rational and even dignified manner. Conflating the two, however, smears the latter with the destructive effects of the former.

My distinction (for private use, I’m not rewriting the dictionary):
Anger: a normal reaction to an imminent evil.
        Outrage: a political tool.

        Carmen,

If you would ever read the Bible, especially the New Testament, you would see that Christians are Christian precisely because they are morally inferior to the Beautiful People (people like you and Mr. Merveilleux).

Two of today’s Catholic Mass readings are very explicit in that regard:

        1. Wisdom 11:22 – 12:2
        2. Luke 19:1-10
