Really? How does one do that? It sounds like an interesting career path!
It happened all the time back then, before then, and right up to the nineties. Evans was cooler than Davis so didn’t sue him. Davis gave him $25 when he asked for a royalty credit. The best 10-bar blues ballad ever written. Here’s Evans playing it:

Incidentally, the month after Chet performed the tune in your video, he fell out of a second floor window and died.
