Faux-Bonsai
This is a Beaucarnea Recurvata (aka Nolina). You get the effect of a miniature palm/coconut tree for very little money (between €5 and €10) and even less work. It’ll do well in any bright room and it’s a succulent which means watering isn’t something you have to constantly worry about.
Once the plant has reached the size you want, you can keep it that way by trimming the roots (once a year should be enough). Never by more than 1/3rd!!!
I love the sort of tropical feel it adds to a room.

That is nice. I wonder how big it would get if you let it grow? i.e. could you put it in a /big/ tub that goes on the floor?

Yes! In the tropics (outside) it does very well. Two to 3 metres tall. In a larger container you can probably get it to 1.5 metres if you’re patient enough 🙂

I like the sound of that! I’m terrible with indoor plants but a succulent sounds as if it could survive just about anything, and a big one would look great. 🙂

You’d have to be patient or buy already large, though. Growth is seriously slow.

I love this rec, have a similar spot on our fireplace mantle that I have been looking for something. Succulents are so easy 🙂

Agree. I have a fleur de lys print in there on drapes so the shape is perfect. Now to find a cat-proof container that doesn’t look tacky!

There’s a decent terracotta one at Ikea, but you have to paint it to make it look more refined.

just went on a plant buying mission for our den. got a couple of ferns and another random one that supposedly thrives on being ignored. I guess we’re getting ready to nest for the winter 🙂

Beautiful. I’ll admit to having a fake one for about 20 years, and it never needed watering, just dusting. Visitors thought it was a real one. I eventually threw it out when we moved countries. 😆
