My Mazamet

Life at № 42 by E.M. Coutinho

This week at nº 42: wildlife pictures (sort of) and guest rooms

Okay- so it’s not wildlife pictures in that Sonel or Ark sort of way. It’s one where nothing is moving, which means I can almost photograph it in focus! It’s what I’m researching at the moment. A painting from the Dutch Golden Age. Not one of the finer pieces, but very decorative nonetheless. I just love the little bird. He looks like he’s about to do something mischievous.

The girls arrive from the UK this week! Everything is almost ready. One of the guest rooms is actually ready- the other still needs some sprucing up. The walk-in closets are still not done, so we’ve had to improvise with modern metal thingies for clothes which I bought online (and which, thank goodness, arrived yesterday.) They’ll have to do for now.

I’d love to keep the Aubusson, but alas, it too is only passing through.

The art looks nice! I agree about the bird one. It seems sketchy to me. I’d keep a close eye on that one.

I love the still life but…it’s the parquetry in the bedroom pic that really caught my eye. It’s come up so beautifully! Sorry, I know I’m a philistine. 🙂

  7. You know what I like that is a lot of fun? Badminton. You have that nice grassy yard. We have pro badminton rackets and that makes all the difference in the world. And we are competitive so I mark the playing field by laying down rope, ha-ha-ha. A good quality badminton set is really nice, oh and really nice birdies too. Badminton is actually a lot of fun for a small group and I really like it because you don’t have to be particularly athletic to play it.

I hope you have a lot of fun with your guests. One day I will share another fun party idea is one where I made a road rally, They started with a clue, they had to figure out the clue, get in the car to drive to the destination where they find their next clue. You stagger start 10 or 15 minutes apart. The key to the game is developing good clues. Like one clue will all be in German, first they have to figure out what language they are even looking at then they all figure out to go on the internet with their cell phones and translate the clue. That road rally party was a LOT of fun. Everybody had to put in $5 and the winner got the pot and a bottle of champagne. Of course your friends are all wealthy, you should make them throw in at least 50 Euros in the pot, makes them more competitive if there is a cash prize at the end.

    I’m just a fun girl. :-‘)
