My Mazamet

Slowly but surely. Apartment 3 (2 bed/2 bath)

It’s taken longer than we hoped… but we’re there. The rooms were a bit fiddly in this one- very few right angles. In all I’m happy. Mike deserves a ton of credit for this one because my contribution was basically just the floorplan. He chose almost everything else.

It’s come out better than I expected. Big windows, bright rooms, it’s even reasonably stylish. I mean you wouldn’t be embarrassed of inviting friends over. The living room/kitchen is on the small side, but that was the price that had to be paid for giving each of the bedrooms its own shower-room. I’m also pleased with the new entrance hall (picture 2). That used to be just wasted communal space outside this apartment’s entrance door. Now the tenant can put a piece of furniture there, a cupboard a coat rack… whatever they like.

Now we’re approaching the more interesting side of the project which is the three larger apartments. The two on the top floor and then the ground floor garden flat. We still haven’t made a decision on whether to keep or sell the ground floor flat to recover what we’ve invested in the building. I think we’ll wait until it’s all done then get a valuation and depending on how that goes we’ll make up our minds.

It’s looking very stylish Pinky! And I love the quirkiness. 🙂

    • I do too! Mike doesn’t love all the unusual angles… but I keep telling him it’s just because he’s used to things always being a certain way. In reality there’s no *need* for every room in the world to be a rectangular box 😀

-grin- Secret! I’d love to have a round house, or at least curved one. No idea how I’d furnish it, but I’d be happy just looking at it. 🙂

I say keep and rent out, so you don’t loose control and you don’t sell in a down market. (I admit, I know nothing about investing. I mostly want the opportunity to outlive all my cats and then come rent from you, Pinkie!)

Yes, but I have ten cats! And it will likely be another ten years before they’ve dwindled down to two or three. I keep them very healthy, so they might live 20 years.

      • OMG. 20 is a lot. Are they all inside?

Yes. They used to enjoy the outdoors, until my evil neighbor retaliated against me (for her own dangerous driving) by breaking one cat’s pelvis in three places. He barely made it home at 3 a.m., gave a “mama!” type cry, and woke me.

And we’re all living in a 175 square foot home. It was an empty cargo trailer with windows, electric outlets and a rooftop air conditioner. I made it functional, so we could live in it. This wasn’t by choice. It was by necessity, after credit union unduly repossessed the motorcoach that was my home. I was far ahead on payments, all of them better than timely, a perfect borrower, so their move made no legitimate sense.

Are the floors just dirty, or is that real iron wood?

  6. Really nice. I really like the lighting in the kitchen. It makes all the difference in the world. The tile is really pretty also, like it. Tenants can buy a nice long table to separate the kitchen from the living area.

Is it the pic or is that about the narrowest door I have ever seen, right near the fireplace. Both bedrooms enter from the main living area with no corridor? If so the best option for small spaces. If you have the space of course a corridor to the bedrooms is nicer but in a tight space I would always opt for no corridor and larger rooms.

I think it is a beautiful apartment and very well done. I can’t wait to see the next ones. I love following your remodeling projects I really do.
