“There are many decent people involved in the campaign to secure Britain’s withdrawal from the EU, many who respect the referendum as the exercise in democracy that it is. But there are others whose recklessness has been open and shocking. I believe they bear responsibility, not for the attack itself, but for the current mood: for the inflammatory language, for the finger-jabbing, the dogwhistling and the overt racism.
It’s been part of a noxious brew, with a dangerous anti-politics and anti-MP stereotypes fomented by leave and their media backers mixed in. Only an hour before this shooting Nigel Farage unveiled a huge poster showing Syrian refugees fleeing to Slovenia last year, nothing to do with EU free movement – and none arriving here. Leave’s poster read: “Breaking Point. We must break free from the EU and take control of our borders.” Nicola Sturgeon, Caroline Lucas and many others condemned it as “disgusting”, and so it is.”

Here in the USA the leftists are ready, willing and able to reek havoc and carnage because they don’t like the way GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, expresses himself.
For those on the Left, everyone is free to speak only if they speak correctly.

Meanwhile here we have Donald Trump wanting to ban Muslims, Mexicans, and pretty much everybody else. AND PEOPLE SUPPORT HIM (not me, but people). So it’s not just the UK, this xenophobia is everywhere.

I’m still voting Leave and the cynical cashing in of this murder by the Remain lobby has just reinforced my view. The very fact that so many posts on the matter are tagged as ‘Brexit’ is the giveaway.

I’m not at all sure how much cynicism exists with the Remain camp. The Brexit campaign is the one making loud noises as to false flags, which is perilously close to claiming this was deliberate from the Remain campaign.

I didn’t infer that you were. I just find it interesting given that there is no evidence to link this murder to *any* aspect of the Leave campaign that the Remain lobby are exploiting it by associating it with ‘Brexit’, which is primarily a constitutional issue which should have been sorted out in 1992. I have already decided to vote Leave, because my politics are basically ‘Old’ Labour, as per Frank Field.
The ‘xenophobic’ tone you speak of is because anyone who raises legitimate environmental or economic concerns about unsustainbly high levels of immigration gets labelled as a ‘racist’ by the vested interests (slumlords and unscrupulous employers) via their ‘left-wing’ stooges at the Guardian and the BBC.

I’m really saddend by this tragedy in the UK. I’m hoping some crazed Trump supporter doesn’t do the same to a pro-immigration politician, activist or “Mexican” here. Incendiary retoric has played a role in many a tragedy. It is, in part responsible, for shootings at women’s reproductive health facilities in the US, responsible for murder of atheists bloggers and a gay blogger in Bangladesh, responsible for selection of a venue playing “decadent music” in the November attacks in Paris, and responsible for the selection of an LGBTQ club on Latin night last Sunday in Orlando, Florida. I could go on and on but clearly those stirring up the hatred will disavow responsibility with one glaring exception, ISIS, which seems delighted to claim responsibility for any attack in the west.

What winds me up is that, at the end of the day, if it would change anything (spoiler alert: whether we’re in the EU or not our gov does whatever it wants anyway, so it makes no odds], it would change finance and business. But rather than debate the economic aspects rationally, both sides are just pulling numbers out their butts to argue we should be in or out, as though a figure from the 70s, an unreferenced statistic or an out of context digit means anything. And when you ask them for sources for their numbers they run away or block you.
So far it looks like: leaving the EU would bring an immediate economic crash followed by greater stability and growth after 3-5 years of rebuilding, staying in the EU would permit a controlled descent of the economy but ultimately eat into our budget unless tourist nations are removed or not given financial support. But that’s assuming nothing would change economically, that we would still rely on EU trade, etc, and working with very few figures because the available statistics that are worth anything are few and far between. It’s a mess. Luckily(?], whatever we ask for can be vetoed, rewritten and renegotiated, and whether we stay in or out, our government policy makers will still do as they please.
