The *safe-space* people are at it again.

For the love of Mithra. The safe-space people are back to annoy us all. Here’s Robby Soave’s take:

“The Craziest Demands of College Kids in 2016 No grades, no Shakespeare, and no students of different stripes—welcome to campus insanity in 2016.

“We have spoken. We are speaking. Pay attention.” So said Yale University students to the faculty of the English department, perfectly encapsulating the attitude of the college activist in 2016…

… Implement Segregated Safe Spaces: It’s not just that the curriculum is too white: some students actually resent having to spend so much time surrounded by people who don’t belong to their tribe. Many activists, in fact, have asked their colleges to create segregated safe spaces for students of color, female students, LGBT students, or students of some other identity group.

Didn’t you refer to a book about how Nazis tried to create an “Aryan view of science” as opposed to a Jewish one?
    Everything old is new again.

You don’t like Shakespeare? Don’t take that class. You don’t want to see men on campus/in the classroom? You can enroll in an all women’s college. You like to binge drink & commit rape…join a fraternity. You want to be a black student surrounded by other black students??? Attend a historically black university. You’re homosexual and want to study with other homosexuals??? May I direct you to the drama department of any University, and/or New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology. There ARE safe spaces on college campuses already.

I want a safe space from people who demand safe spaces. These children are unbelievable! What is their age group 10-15?

I personally think safe spaces should be banned in college…you go to college to LEARN, and you’re not going to learn anything if you surround yourself with people who are all exactly like you.

I thought Neil Armstrong already proved that space wasn’t really that safe.
Or was that Tom Hanks? Hell, it was one of those damn space movies!

That sounds pretty normal for Yale. The environment they promote at that institution is…unique. Its law school actually doesn’t have to conform to American Bar Association standards for issuing GPAs. The whole place is pass/fail.

    And it’s a Tier 1 law school.

I’m a Caucasian, Italian-American female. I grew up in a two-parent household, in a middle-class neighborhood. I went to Catholic school from kindergarten through high school, all in my very white, middle-class neighborhood. Many of the students at the small college I attended were also white, but the college itself was located in an area of downtown Brooklyn that was…populated by blacks. The “campus” was three buildings that shared a block of a carribean neighborhood with a home for the mentally challenged. To get to campus, I took the subway, got off at Flatbush & DeKalb Avenue, and walked 12 blocks through Greenpoint (a neighborhood where Spike Lee, Rosie Perez, and several less famous New Yorkers, live). Artsy kids from the Pratt Institute would also walk through that part of town on the way to and from their campus. Going to college, seeing the artsy kids from Pratt & the blacks who lived in that part of Brooklyn (this was the ’90s, before the hipsters took over), was as much a part of my education as anything I learned in the classroom.

So we’ve gone so far in the direction of safe spaces that we’re re-instituting segregation? Brilliant. I know classes were always more difficult when I had to interact with women, straight people, or people of color. Or people who didn’t understand deconstruction, or couldn’t appreciate Stravinsky. The end of this is a society of hermits, paranoid about the insecurity of the world outside.
