This week at № 42

The tiles for the scullery have arrived. They’re by an Italian company called Marca Corona- from their new Terra collection.

I’ve been sanding the cupboards which are going to be painted the same (khaki) color as the door into the kitchen (which swings both ways!!! I always wanted that):

On the wall opposite the cupboards, the tiles are going all the way up to eye level- because that’s exactly the way it was done originally. The Tomettes de Salernes floors are in great condition, so they’re staying.

The arches for the stone wall arrived. They’re going to look excellent. I’ve leaned them against the wall just to get a feel…

They’ll be a bit higher, and they look invisible now but once there’s something interesting growing on them they’ll stand out. A pair of period sculptures would look really, really great there… unfortunately the very attractive ones are quite expensive. There’s a pair I found online at Giron Antiques in Saint Aignan which is just superb, but I’m pretty sure Mike would have me guillotined if I bought them now, before all the major work (as in dining room/study/guest rooms/bathrooms) is finished. But a boy can dream…
