The tiles for the scullery have arrived. They’re by an Italian company called Marca Corona- from their new Terra collection.
I’ve been sanding the cupboards which are going to be painted the same (khaki) color as the door into the kitchen (which swings both ways!!! I always wanted that):
On the wall opposite the cupboards, the tiles are going all the way up to eye level- because that’s exactly the way it was done originally. The Tomettes de Salernes floors are in great condition, so they’re staying.
The arches for the stone wall arrived. They’re going to look excellent. I’ve leaned them against the wall just to get a feel…
They’ll be a bit higher, and they look invisible now but once there’s something interesting growing on them they’ll stand out. A pair of period sculptures would look really, really great there… unfortunately the very attractive ones are quite expensive. There’s a pair I found online at Giron Antiques in Saint Aignan which is just superb, but I’m pretty sure Mike would have me guillotined if I bought them now, before all the major work (as in dining room/study/guest rooms/bathrooms) is finished. But a boy can dream…
I love those tiles.
The sculptures….. a boy can dream

Could you buy those sculptures as a gift for Mike? He couldn’t have you guillotined for giving him a gift. Or you can do what women do when confronted by their partners about their excessive spending…distract him with sex.

LOL. I’ve overused both those things over the past 15 years 🙂 they don’t work anymore. Now we have to go through UN security council like negotiations. I have to wait until there’s something he really wants… and then I pounce. I won’t complain about you getting A, but you won’t complain about me getting B 😉

Well there must be something he wants

Everything looks superb, Pinky, except perhaps the sculptures. My tastes are a bit too minimalist for those, but I can see that they would look right in a formal style garden. With the arches, how will you stop the stuff growing at the back from taking over?

The ivy is deciduous, so it’s easy to trim in fall/winter. I’ll have to wait and see how the plants look together before deciding how it works best 🙂

Ah that’s right. I forgot it was deciduous. From a distance I thought it might be a ficus. A bougainvillia could look lovely but they’re deciduous too.

I’m not a fan of the statues either because I prefer more modern and Asian, But you know what, to each their own.
What I would like to see are two giant rooster statues. In French isn’t rooster spelled cock? And isn’t the rooster the American equivalent of the bald eagle? The Rooster is an iconic French Symbol, no? So I would enjoy seeing the naughty visualization in the English language of “two cocks” [French for Roosters] which represents you and Mike. Heck I would put those two cocks all over in decoration as a tongue in cheek reference to the two of you, but I’m naughty that way.

My trip to Paris a couple of years ago taught me how much I love sculpture. I hope you find something nice in your price range.
