Apt. #3, the floorplan

apt3fp

There it is, although not exactly to scale. Apartment 3 is on the same level as apt. 4 (what we call in France & Britain the 1st floor, or in the US the 2nd floor.) As you can see there are quirky angles. Mike finds them strange. I quite like the idea of unique spaces that require less conventional furniture arrangements. I’ve left the fireplaces and cupboards out of the floor plan, just because I’m being lazy.

I like eccentric floor plans too, and this one looks very interesting indeed. I’m curious about the bathroom in the bigger bedroom. Could you put in a walkinrobe next to the bathroom…sorry, shower room? It would create a more usable space in that corner unless my sense of dimensions is completely out of whack.

Actually, the more I look at that room the more I like it, especially that cut off corner. If it’s big enough it would make the perfect place for the bed.

It’s exactly big enough for a bed! The bigger bedroom already has a walk in wardrobe, but we are thinking of putting a cupboard there as well. There’ll also be a cupboard in the entrance hall for a vacuum cleaner etc.

Yes! I could just see a bed there. 😀 And yes for the vacuum cleaner cupboard too. I wish I had one. It’s the bane of my life.

Good layout for a flat having the bedrooms separated, and both en-suite too. Over here in England most flats have adjoining bedrooms for some stupid reason (snoring! bonking!), and usually only one is en-suite.

Thanks! That’s why we came up with this floorplan. Originally this was a one bedroom, but we stole the second bedroom from the apartment next door. I think that’ll make it particularly interesting for a flatshare or someone with children.

Perhaps some sort of counter level divider for kitchen and dining room with open walk in space at both ends.

I like the angles too. Odd thing here, as you might already know, Brazilians hate corner property’s. For me, they’re the best!

Angled corners are really quite interesting for the visual effect and can add much to design and decorating potential (especially visual flow versus movement flow). They can also be the bane of function in a right angled world (and create dead space). If anyone can find the middle ground, I’m sure you can. This apartment isn’t too bad for this. I’m looking forward to seeing what decisions you make and how this all turns out. That living room/kitchen/movement flow looks particularly challenging.

That’s the best about having a whole building to play with…you can ‘steal’ space.

I love the unusual room shapes & angles, & having the bedrooms either side of the living areas is a huge improvement on the UK arrangement. Please get a wriggle on & finsih it so we can see the kitchen fitting etc! (I should get a wriggle on with my own bedroom decorating….been thinking about getting a paintbrush out for 2 weeks but that’s as far as I’ve got. I need motivation when it’s cold weather).

Open the paint tin in the morning and you’ll just feel obliged to start after about 30 minutes 😀
