Signs of Spring
It’s 17° and the sun is shining today. The forecast says that in a couple of weeks it’ll be around 20°. Then it’s practically March and if last year is anything to go by, it’s perfectly pleasant. The dogs are outside.
Time really flies. In less than a month Mike and I will have been officially married for a year- although we’ve been virtually married for 15. We’ll also have been at number 42 for a year. Both of our birthdays are also in March. On the 23rd I’ll be 38.
I’m satisfied as to how life stands at this point, so ageing doesn’t really bother me. I could do without the thinning hair up there in the crown region, but other than that I don’t have much to complain about.
Sometimes, often actually, I wonder how my decisions stand in the great scheme of life. Should I be doing more of one thing or another? Should I focus more on business? Should I get a cabin in the mountains by a lake? Or a beach house? Or a finca? Should I want any of those things? What should people want?
I’m not sure I want anything more, but in all probability there are still a few decades left- so I suppose I should want something? Or perhaps it’s okay to just tick along. Garden, cook, eat out. Speaking of which, we went to Lou Lengadocian in Labruguière the other day (in case you’re wondering that just means The Languedocian, as in from the Languedoc.) We’re still on Andalucian eating time, so they were closing, but the owner was super nice and let us in anyway. It’s everything you’d want from a little French restaurant. Incredibly good value for money. Excellent house wine.

We’re being bombarded with Zika virus news reports too. Is it really as big as all that? Or are the media just whipping up a frenzy for the fun of it?

The local schools here are also having Carnaval… but of the Canadian variety featuring Bonhomme Carnaval and celebrating Quebec culture and winter fun. It’s a little early here for the sap, however, so maple syrup isn’t quite ready to throw into the snow for instant treats. C’est la vie.
As for your important question about if you should want anything more or just tick along, I am reminded of what it means to live well: that’s what you have left when stripped of all possessions… and perhaps there’s a direction to your answer.

I find that when I want something then I try to do it….but wanting something tends to creep up on me rather than being sought out.
Dogs look decidedly chuffed with the springlike conditions. Our lot are flopped out on the coolest tiles they can find.as the dry season has come in with a vengeance.

I used to want lots of things, but I have or have had them now. Other things I might want seem troublesome. I might enjoy a beach house in Greece, but then again, it would be in Greece 😀

There’s wanting, and then there’s really wanting. I want a Porsche, but what I really want is for my beloved old Corolla to chug along for a few more years because, it’s almost like one of the family. -hugs- You’ll know when you find it I guess. 🙂

Buddhism says the key to happiness is the absence of suffering, and want is suffering. No wants, no suffering, so I’d say you’re set for life.
The camellias are blooming here in California as well. I knew they blossomed early, but I thought they bloomed March and April? Regardless, the bushes around here are sagging with the weight of all the flowers. Just beautiful.
