Work at the 1 bedroom

A ton going on this week. The double glazing is in place in the 1 bedroom flat. Big, lots of light.

Showing off the bedroom window is Ted Thatcher, our friend who’s guiding us through the project (and currently one of my favourite people in the world.) He’s just fantastic because not only does he know what he’s doing but he has the greatest attitude ever. We can really collaborate. He listens to what we want, then he gives us the options of what’s feasible (and won’t totally break the bank)- and so things are coming out just the way we hoped. All the insulation is up:

This is the floorplan we ended up with in the middle floor which includes a two bedroom, a one bedroom and a studio. The top floor has two apartments that take up the whole level, and the ground floor has a studio and the future loft apartment.

A few days ago we picked up the floors, they’re by an Austrian company called Kaindl. Their local rep was having a sale so we bought out their stock. Unfortunately it’s only enough to do half of the apartments in block II.

In person they look really great. The colour is something between brown and grey. The (Halcon) Spanish tiles for the kitchen backsplashes have also arrived, they’re huge, 60cm x 60cm each. The effect is going to be excellent. As you can see from the picture below, each tile is different to the next, which makes for a more organic/natural look.

Tiling in the bathroom begins Friday. The kitchen goes in next week. We should be done on schedule in 10 to 15 days. That’ll be one down, six to go! The larger apartments on the top floor are going to move very quickly because apart from insulation, the work is basically mostly interior design. We may be able to have the pre-existing flats completed by mid February, then we move onto the atelier/future loft apartment which should take about a month to complete.
