My Mazamet

Please do detest me; and don’t hesitate to offend me.

mae

Just because I think I wouldn’t be half the person I am had I not been as truculent as I was born to be.

The other day someone from my past was terribly offended by my choices (apparently there’s no expiration date on familial disapproval.) One day I’ll probably be 85 and some 105 year old will be raising an eyebrow. I fully realize it’s all a bit unconventional. And that’s how it’ll be ’til the end. Certainly unconventional, but quite fun, often drunk, absolutely always in some degree of style. Sweetheart(s), I ask no more than this- and at this point I’m pretty sure I’m entitled to it.

“The moment you say that any idea system is sacred, whether it’s a religious belief system or a secular ideology, the moment you declare a set of ideas to be immune from criticism, satire, derision, or contempt, freedom of thought becomes impossible.”.

Oh there’s no expiration date on familial disapproval, this I’ve known for some time now. I’m 38, my mother is 70 & you’d think by now she’d be TIRED of disapproving of me, my choices, my life, the outfit u wore to Thanksgiving, and every Damn thing else. But no, the woman tirelessly disapproves of every word I say, every thought I have, every face I make. Some women her age would retire to Florida, but she needs to stay and disapprove of me (and my two younger sisters).

Doesn’t it seem absurd? When I don’t enjoy something/someone I make an effort to stay away.
The first person to visit me in the new house was a cousin who actually drove eight hours to get here- and then embarked on a critique of how none of my choices were good.
…a house this size is going to cost a fortune to heat.
…why does a childless couple need something so big.
…why are you investing in developing real estate here when you’ve just arrived and you don’t even know if the people here will like your style?

You’d think people could find better things to do 🙂

-grin- Family is duty bound to rain on your parade. After all, like the public service, they can’t be sacked. Luckily you can now ignore them at will, right?

    Love the animation. LOL!

As for family – It doesn’t matter what you do or what kind of person you are, there will always be someone ‘raising an eyebrow’ at your choices. Most of them want to control you or want you to be like them.

Who cares what they think? It’s your life, your choices and all that matters is that you are happy and loved. You don’t ask them for anything and you don’t owe them anything. If they can’t accept you for who you are, they don’t deserve to be part of your life, and that includes the so-called ‘family’. You are entitled to have the best life you can have E. Live it! 😀

I agree 100%. The part I find odd is people making an effort to spend time near other people who they obviously don’t like. It seems insane.

I find that odd as well and could never understand it and don’t think I ever will. Why spend time with someone you don’t like or can’t stand? Are they trying to impress someone, themselves or is it because they are just plain crazy?

To a degree I think we’re trained into it. We’re indoctrinated into believing we have to maintain contact with family members no matter how unpleasant the experience may be for everyone involved. Just absurd.

That is a fact and also because you’re forever told ‘you’re from the same blood’. Bleh!

You’re right. It is absurd. Just because they’re family doesn’t make you less human and give them the right to treat you like dirt. Family or not, if they don’t have respect for you or your loved ones, they’re out!

If you’re aiming to offend and be detested you’re not making a very good job of it. OK, I’ll amend that, you might offend the odd one or two sensitive souls out there in blogland …

Then you will have to descend to levels of stupidity and inanity. Think you can manage that? 😀
