the planters on both sides of the steps are ready for a cypress each which will then be surrounded by gardenias

If this is what autumn is like every year in this part of the world, we’ve chosen well. Today is a definite working in the garden day. There’s a whole lot to do. I’ve decided to go with groundcover of lamium/dead-nettle and ajuga reptans for the area under the camellias and other shaded zones.

Every day in the garden at this season is a bonus.

What a beautiful place. I’m still waiting for my invitation to the house warming party to come in the mail. I guess the overseas mail is just slow. :p

Thanks! I must admit I’m still in awe of it. Did you notice there’s an adult man in both pictures? Just standing in front of it is an extraordinary experience- one really gets a feeling of how permanent it is, and consequently how temporal we are.

Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons precisely because they are so good for gardening. 🙂

It sure has been beautiful up here in the Touraine as well, although I can say it’s definitely not normal for this time of year here. The driveway border and the grass look like they’ve always been there!

Last winter was mild as well, wasn’t it? I didn’t find it too bad at all.

Thanks for the compliment- I think when the cypresses go in everything is going to really come together as it’ll soften the strict geometry of the facade 🙂
