Grace Church Seattle: Ryan Faust’s Defence of Katy Faust

gracechurchsign

When I exposed Katy Faust/Askthebigot’s identity , her husband, the pastor Ryan Faust responded. I noticed he recently deleted it from his page, but I think it’s important his attack remain public. Keep in mind that everything about my identity at that point was public, and she had an anonymous blog.

What follows was written by Ryan Faust and published on his blog in April 2014. A cached version is available here. Guess who he’s referring to as the Cyber Super Ego Bully?

CYBER SUPER EGOS WHO BULLY

Why do I have my real name with a real picture of myself on my blog? Because I don’t want to hide behind a false identity and give myself permission to say things I would not say if I were writing a personal email or text, or having a phone conversation, or a face-to-face conversation.

With me, what you read is what you get; whether in person or behind a computer screen.  I am not witty, I normally do not make people laugh, in person I try hard to come across as genuinely caring while at the same time speaking truth, and I try to convey the same ethos from behind a computer screen.

Now there are people out there who refuse to show a real picture or use a real name and they like to hide behind a computer screen and say things that a normal person would never say in a face-to-face conversation.  But for some reason when they get behind their mask and write in a pseudo-screen name they become emboldened to say what they are really thinking and feeling with emphasis!!!! Robert Putnam calls this developing a Cyber Super-Ego.  I call it another form of bullying.

One reason people develop a screen name might be out of fear.  And this fear is real.  There are people out there savvy enough at using the internet to destroy, intimidate, or strike fear into people (and sometimes they do real harm).  These people don’t like what certain people are saying and once they realize they have been out reasoned in a discussion they resort to name calling or worse, and sometimes try underhanded tactics such as getting information about people to unmask them posing a potential threat to their family, livelihood, reputation, etc.

This is cyber bullying.  It is an attempt to strike fear into the hearts of people with whom they oppose.  Well if you are a Christian, and if you write anything of substance on the internet that suggests Jesus is Lord, the Bible is God’s Word, or that the morality of the God of the Bible is superior to modern progressive thought, then you had better prepare for the worst – but make sure you do not use the tactics of the world.  We are not to fight dirty to try to silence opposition.  We should not develop a super-ego, which emboldens us to say what we normally would not say if we were sitting down face-to-face having a conversation with the same person.

If you don’t like the heat or if you do not want to face the risk that goes along with internet communication, then don’t write anything.  But if you are ready to face the world and actually dialogue in a Christ-like manner about what really matters, then prepare yourself with prayer for what is to come.  You might be torched or beat down, but realize that this is just a sampling of what Jesus went through during the Passion week leading to His suffering, trial, brutal death, burial, and the cosmic battle that was unseen (see Luke 19-23).  But realize also that Jesus was raised, therefore we have hope (Luke 24).

You might be unmasked by a foe, but don’t let this silence you.  Chances are that the person who unmasked you is being a hypocrite and would be extremely upset if you unmasked him or her.

Some of the evil that exists in this world guises itself as “tolerant” or “progressive”, but the proponents of these views tend to have a double standard.  Their version of tolerance tends to be “live and let live” but don’t let Christians live as Christians.  While progressivism to some of them means developing a system of morality absent Judeo-Christian morality.

Now I realize not all on the side of progressivism are like this.  But the loudest in the media and internet tend to be this way.  What they are really doing is trying to stand for an absolute standard, which rejects Christian morality and embraces all other forms of morality.  To many of these thinkers a progressive world is an enlightened world, but in reality progressive thinking results in heart break when one loses their virginity to their first love and then he goes on to the next girl; or a child born with microcephaly because her mom smoked pot while pregnant; or paralysis because a teenager decided to drink and drive; or a homeless woman with her 7 year old hopping from house to house 4-7 months at a time and being totally dependent on welfare and the kindness of people who let them stay in their basement and eat their food until the homeless woman burns a bridge and then frantically leaves crying out that its everyone else’s fault; or a child being rejected by his parents and placed in a box and left at the train station at age 2 days because he is born albino; or a three year old heart being broken because mom decided to have an affair and then go to court and try to take all of dad’s money and then get married to a different man and try to have him replace the real dad all because mom realized she never loved her first husband; or a mother being taken from a family with 3 kids all because a woman stayed up all night picking mushrooms in the mountains and then the woman falls asleep at the wheel at 11:15 am because she was too tired and kills the innocent mother of three; or putting a 6 month old child in a freezer after breaking his arm just to try to stop the child from crying; or…

All the above stories are true.

This reveals we live in a broken world.

All the above happened because someone had a worldview that did not fear God.  (By fear I mean realizing that God is real and that He has an ethical standard by which He will hold all people accountable to, and the realization that you fall short of this ethical standard and need His grace and His help to live up to His standard).

If there is no God, there is no standard.

The mere fact we argue about a standard suggests that we really believe there is a standard that exists outside ourselves by which we are all measured.  If we didn’t believe this, then we would never argue.  But because we argue, we show that we believe there is a rule of measurement.  And if their is a rule of measurement, there must be a Ruler who sets the standard.  Random chance can’t create a standard of measurement.  Random chance doesn’t care.  Only someone intelligent enough to think about the standard of measurement could create a standard that we all appeal to.  Notice I said someone, not something.  Something implies a thing, which may or may not have intelligence.  Someone implies a thinking, intelligent designer that can come up with a standard.  And since that someone is intelligent, it can be known.

In writing this post I am appealing to the standard of fair play.  What I hear often from people who are “progressive” is that Christians need to be silenced because they are not “tolerant.”  Then I point out that their reasoning is hypocritically intolerant.  And then they point out, “Well, Christians have been in charge for too long, now it is our turn to push them around.”  This reasoning doesn’t make sense, its illogical, and its based in emotion and a desire for revenge.

I appeal to everyone who has ever had the desire for revenge, is it right? Do you like it when people seek revenge against you? If not, then why have a double-standard? Why not rather be wronged? But if there is no God, then there is no “right” or “wrong” so what’s the point? Or is that the point? Since atheism and agnosticism lead to the conclusion that morals and ethics are produced by humans, then why not just produce a new set of rules that suppress the voices the powerful don’t like.  But does this create a better world? What happens when the more powerful take over and say the West is made up of weak-minded cowards? I guess we would all become servants or go to the gulag.

What I find interesting is that the people with Cyber Super Egos tend to speak loudly as if they carry a big stick and push people around by the written word, but I wonder if they would do the same to me or any of my Christian friends if we sat in a room talking about the same issue over coffee?

The challenge of this blog is for Christians to raise the bar to a new level of integrity; unmask yourself, show who you really are on-line and be more careful about how you say things.  Show graciousness.  Don’t be surprised if you are wronged.  When someone with a fake internet name and without a picture slaps you on the cyber check, face them with love and controlled strength and let them try to slap shut your computer.  They are only showing the weakness of their belief system.  Take the high road.  Become like Jesus.  Strengthen yourself with prayer.  Realize they can hack your computer and threaten your family, but they can never take your soul.  For as Christians we belong to Christ and will be raised with Him.  He has given us the Spirit of God as a down payment guaranteeing our inheritance and as the power and guide to lead us in all conversations and circumstances in life.  Stay strong in the Lord.  Never give up, and above all, demonstrate love for friend and foe.

1 Cor. 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

GODSPEED

If only Christians were more Christ-like. Athesis would have far fewer problems with them if they were. The trouble is, they’re not.

Alas, “Christ-like” can also be this:

” ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. 27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.” – Luke 19

The crew at ATB love to bully while claiming to be victim.

All I have ever done on that blog is question the validity of generalizing their personal experience as alleged “children of gays” to be sufficient proof that all gay parents are universally horrible people. I have not called people names, I have not personally attacked anyone. I have not threatened or tried to silence. In response I have been called names, I have been likened to a human trafficker, a child abuser. I have been told that I must not love my children enough to provide for their needs. I have been told that my sons will not know how to treat women respectfully, and that my daughter will not know what to do with herself when she has her menstrual period. My comments have been dismissed as not worthy of consideration because I am supposedly part of a worldwide baby stealing network.

It is not about revenge or personal destruction when these anonymous commentators are exposed. It is about making people accountable for the judgmental defamatory things they say about other people’s lives. Katy Faust does not have the courage to say these things to my face using her own public identity, so instead she allows her gang to excoriate me and other gay parents like me through faceless anonymous handles like “Jae” or “IMHO”

You’ve got to laugh, at least a little bit. The man spends the first three paragraphs explaining why anonymity is wrong while he (falsely) attributes it to me.
Then the fourth paragraph is how anonymity is right if it applies to the case of his wife.
That’s why I thought it was important to resurrect his deleted post, so people can see exactly what we’re dealing with. Their mindset is one of social hierarchy. Being part of their socio-cultural group means to them an automatic state of superiority.
Anything they do or say is justified and moral. Anything one or said by LGBT people is evil, because we’re ‘less than’ (allegedly).

I especially liked the part about God setting the standards. Those standards include seeing his flock blown away by missiles, shot by bullets, slaughtered in their millions all over the world. Whenever I raise this question I’m always told it’s Free Will but I have to question the validity of that since the young children and the babies don’t have free will in what happens to them. They are innocents but still killed by the same means as adults.
A caring god would see an end to wars without removing free will. He would protect the innocents until they’re old enough to enjoy the Free Will he granted.
I don’t understand those churches that choose to foster hatred against others no matter what transgressions they imagine have occurred. Surely punishment for any sins lies at the hands of god on judgement day, not at the hands of a few pastors on Earth. They’d be better off exhorting their flock to refuse to go to war and saving more children that way than by speaking against the rare gay adoption or gay marriage.
    Hugs

I do wish they’d follow the admonition in Matthew 7:- 2 “Do not judge, so that you will not be judged, since you will be judged in the same judgment that you make, and you will be measured by the same standard you apply.”

Then there is this in Matthew 7:3, 5 “Why do you see the splinter in your brother’s eye but do not notice the log in your own eye? … You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.” It would seem they are not following that advice. (I may be an Atheist but I was also a preacher’s kid).

OK. Someone falls asleep at the wheel because she is Progressive: had she been Christian, she would- not have been picking mushrooms? Not have fallen asleep? Lived in a community where she was not allowed to drive? What?

Does it not make you wonder how these people function in the real world? How do they confront things that depend on rational thinking? Things like taxes or applying for a job. Or putting together a piece of Ikea furniture.

Their inability to love and respect their neighbors leads them to lead increasingly insular lives. Eventually the bubble gets so small and the outside world becomes so evident that they employ denial and delusion to essentially operate in a perverse alternate moral universe. “Bullies are victims and victims are bullies.”

Reminds me of the Panti speech. Being homophobic isn’t the aggression, pointing out homophobia is the aggression.

Clare, in Ryan Faust’s world Atheists and Progressives (he makes no distinction) do horrible things, have horrible things happen to them because they do not sufficiently fear God, and thus deserve to be punished. This is typical evangelical fire and brimstone rhetoric.

Their arguments depend on these delusions. That’s why people like us need to put ourselves forward.
They need to depict gays as ill marginals who live in the shadows.

Our very existence debunks the foundational myths of their propaganda.

WOW, with what I am fighting now trying to fix a computer that I was using to post atheist and anti religion videos, I really take offence to what the guy wrote. Several facts. The only posts I have to delete are from rabid religious people that are so obscene I can’t post them, and I have even responded to those I could clean up enough to allow. I have a router that keeps track of attacks on our house system, and I have a log on my computers personal security also that shows the attacks we get. Sadly the only time I get notices of major attacks against us is when I post an anti religious post, or a atheist post. It got so bad at one point my router shut down several sites from accessing us. I still have one computer to fix from the last attack that got through. My point…why do these loving religious people think it is OK to try to destroy my computers and my home system, simply because they don’t like my message? That is what they claim others do, yet I have the logs to show they are the ones doing it to me. Sad. Thanks for a great post. Hgus

    Mr. M,

I was not familiar with this person Katy Faust until I accidentally discovered your blog, for which I thank you. Someone must unmask this hypocrite, pretending concern yet wallowing in vicious unkindness that she doesn’t have an inkling of. How can someone who seems to be intelligent (I’ve watched her cloying, lies-invested videos) be so heartless and unkind?

What I would like to know is if she has ever offered her “mothers” an opportunity to speak to her concerns? Do we know for sure she actually has two mothers (she is the kind of person who could readily conjure up false scenarios)? Has anyone made an effort to get in touch with these “mothers” and to ask their opinion of what their ungrateful “daughter” is about?

If these women are as “liberal” as Mrs. Faust makes it appear, I would assume they would be unnerved and troubled by how she uses their relationship in such an unChristian, vicious way.

I much appreciate your efforts to unmask this woman, who ironically symbolizes false piousness. She is a kind of Christian Uriah Heap. Keep up the superb work. These people hurt so many gays and lesbians, esp. young people, like the poor German exchange student who unfortunately fell into Mrs. Faust’s orbit–she describes her “humanitarian” encoutnter with this fellow in one of her icky, “how-I-love-everyone-aren’t-I so-charitable-and-Christian” blog entries (let us hope fellow has since realized the insincerity of her feigned “sincerity”).

Again, many thanks. Keep these exposes going.

Thanks, JAR. The personal stories of that group (Faust, Lopez, Klein et al) are all very unusual. None of them provide any sort of corroboration, just appeals to emotion. Even more unusual is how their stories are word/for/word in line with the NOM strategy. And worse of all, how gay marriage doesn’t really have anything to do with their histories because none of their parents were gay married.

I think one of the main differences between his brand of Christianity and my brand of I-don’t-know-what-group-I-fit-into is that he believes that everyone should live according to his opinion of what’s right. That’s pretty close to the definition of intolerance. How can you defend a website called “Ask the Bigot” when people call it intolerant? Its very name implies intolerance. If you’re going to be proud of your religion, accept the fact that it’s intolerant and limiting, and be proud of that too.
