My Mazamet

Life at № 42 by E.M. Coutinho

Omar Sharif dead at 83

He had alzheimer’s- so this means he didn’t have a terribly long protracted battle with the disease. I’ve only ever heard great things about him. Mike played alongside him a couple of times. Here they are together in very heavy make-up for Peter the Great. Omar was Prince Feodor and Mike was Shafirov.

He was an excellent actor. He shined in “Lawrence of Arabia” along side Peter O’Toole. He’ll be missed. Glad to hear he didn’t long with Alzheimer’s eating him away. I’ve seen that too many times.

The passing of a giant. I’ll raise a glass to him tonight.

RIP, adieu l’artiste! I met him on a flight from Paris to Cairo, years ago… he was in economy class – souriant, charmant, amical with all the passengers who had recognized him… un GRAND MONSIEUR who loved France… ❤

I heard on NPR that he said something about returning to Egypt to die, content happy for having had such a good and long life. Now that I see, here, that he had Alzheimers, and I must wonder whether he took made one last courageous move to die with dignity, before the Alzheimers could take that away from him.

Please pardon my several typos. It’s been one of those days.
