Promising

 

We went to see this building today. It faces two streets, which is good because that means a reasonable amount of light in every room. It’s got a business on the ground floor and then three flats, one per floor. My favourite was the attic flat which could be made into a fantastic loft. Each floor is 60m2, so not too big, not too small. No elevator, though. Tomorrow we’re seeing another one with three apartments, then friday we’re going back to visit this one and then see another one with five apartments.

It’s all a bit daunting. These are such big decisions, and somewhat life-defining/life-changing. This first year, while we do the house we’re going to leave administration in the hands of an agency, but later on I think I can probably handle it myself. I’m not sure though; it can’t be amusing to have people calling in the middle of the night to complain the loo is overflowing. Our aim is to buy something between 10 and 15 flats in the next few months (minus the three we already bought.) That’s a whole lot of paperwork and checking to make sure what’s paid and/or not paid. And a whole lot of loos to overflow.

Oh well, as usual I take on overwhelming projects and learn as I go, generally bumbling all the way through. Mike is being much more involved with the practical side of life these days, which is nice. When we first arrived he tried on his, but you’re more fluent trick that he used to use in Spain- but I said, oh no you don’t. A couple of months later and it turns out he speaks perfect french; so it’s my turn to send him off to be the fixer.
