This morning at 10am, in total privacy, we were married by the mayor. Our two witnesses were the deputy mayor and a councilman. By 10:30 we were having champagne (yes, morning champagne) and pastries, very kindly organized by the secretary at the town hall. We wore black, everyday clothes. It was all very low-key and casual, which was exactly what Mike and I wanted. Afterwards we took the dogs for a walk at the park.
These are our last few days in central France, real time pictures of the new house coming next week!
Congratulations! I’m so happy for you!

I heard the anti-gay blogger Katy Faust say that you two are friends. Is that true?

Well done! Are the rings anything special or unique? I suspect, yes…

No rings at all. Mike doesn’t wear jewellery and I’ve got enough as it is 😀

What good news. I thought you weren’t going to bother, but whatever, very many congratulations and hope you continue to have a happy life together.
We went for minimal attendees, ie two witnesses, but we had three gatecrashers! The cheek of it.

We weren’t, but the lawyers here explained that not marrying left us both in a precarious position because if one of us kicked the bucket, the other would be liable for 60% inheritance tax on the deceased’s assets- and neither one of us wants to make that sort of gift to the government 😉

Then that’s an excellent reason 😉 incident ly nothing wrong with champagne in the morning. My mother liked a glass at 11am.

Welcome to the state of the petty bourgeoisie. It is lovely here. But now you have to start to wear matching track suits, and fuss about IPAs and the recycling schedules. xD
Congratulations, to both of you!

Little bastard 😛
People keep talking about recycling here in France, but do you think it’s really true? I don’t see why I should be separating the trash. There was no such thing in Spain.

Congratulations. It does not make the relationship, but recognition from the law still matters. I am delighted to read this.

Thanks! We’ve been together for nearly 15 years, so (either one of us) getting away with a virginal white dress and a veil would have been pushing it 😀

Weddings, even “just a legal contract for asset protection” weddings, call for gifts.
My own favorite wedding gift is one I can give AND keep, because it is words. They were scrawled in an aged hand on a gift enclosure card. After 42 years, I have no recollection of the tangible item they accompanied, but the words have remained fresh and true. I give them to you and Mike. (They are from the Book of Common Prayer.):
May you be, each to the other,
A strength in need,
A counselor in perplexity,
A comfort in sorrow, and
A companion in Joy.
Blessings on your house and the life you are building together.

It’s that woman named Katy’s. Remember her? Ultra religious, anti-gay marriage. At least she allows me to speak my mind. There are a couple of posters, Diane and IMHO who are beyond awful. Please tell them off from your standpoint. Thank you.
