Here we go!
not exactly glamorous, but with three dogs and paintings to transport often, it couldn’t be a vintage convertible
Mike has picked up the new car in Barcelona and is now in Alicante having the seats re-upholstered in black leather. He’ll be back Wednesday evening- and then there’s still packing to do.
We should be leaving for France in 10 (to a maximum of 15) days. Our first destination is a tiny house, in a tiny village, not far from Bourges. Once we settle, the house-hunt begins.

So, the new adventure begins. The vehicle looks eminently suitable for a number of roles where removals are concerned and the black leather interior will look stylish and be easy to maintain.

We considered a number of possibilities, but in the end nothing else was really going to work. Our last car was a big SUV, but Bessie, the oldest of our dogs (13) had trouble getting in and out. This one is low at the back which will make life easier for her 🙂

Nightmare having a high rear (so to speak) for old dogs to jump up in. We have a crate, covered with rubber for Pippa, usually works ok, but 40kgs of dog ain’t an easy lift.

Our other problem is that Bessie hates to be touched. She sometimes comes and sits next to us voluntarily, but if anyone goes towards her or tries to lift her she panics.

Poor thing. Any idea where that anxiety comes from? (No, I’m not going to suggest herbal remedies… we’ve tried it all and nothing works. Funny that)

No. We got her at a shelter and Mike chose her because while all the other dogs were jumping on us she was hiding- so he said that if we didn’t take her, no one else ever would. She’s improved dramatically over the years. At first she didn’t want to be in the same room with human beings- now she even sleeps on the bed, but she still hates being manhandled.

Trauma. It’s a horrible thing for them. We rescued a dog recently that was beside itself with fear of humans. You can only imagine what sort of hell they went through. Well done to both of you for giving her her chance.

We’ve had two feral street dogs (Bessie isn’t feral). They’re the most difficult, especially because most vets refuse to treat them. The first we managed to domesticate (kind of). The second was too ill and only lasted a few weeks with us.

Maybe it depends where you are. Our vet doesn’t bat an eyelid at feral dogs. But he also caters for Northern Europeans, well, some, he speaks German, so he’s used to people taking in stray fogs.
Pippa is our longest on the street dog. Amazingly he came with a beautiful temperament, a torn ear (looked after by normally squeamish nurse roughseas), and a pink necklace of blood-stained fur from street fights. No ticks or fleas though.
Little one wasn’t on the street for long. Thrown out at a few days old, survived the rubbish in and was then taken in by a Spanish woman. So not feral, but still a street dog in origin.
Now I know what I wanted to say on the non-existent blog. Where is the pic of dogs under duvet? When Mike was in Barcelona.

I mean totally feral, as in, will not let a human near them. The one we caught here in Sotogrande (Jimmy) had to be drugged to be caught, and then when we went near him we needed leather jackets, gardening gloves and thick jeans- and still we got hurt. I didn’t take a duvet picture but I will put up a hilarious one of me trying to read on an armchair with two dogs trying to make sure I don’t.

Speaking of glamour, did I mention I got the most amazing eye-lash extensions? I don’t know what it is, but everyone looks gorgeous with long eye lashes.
Now I don’t have to bother putting on any makeup when I go to the grocery store.

I like your new car . And I hope your move goes smoothly & you both enjoy a rest before you search for your next home. I love the title of your new blog but the layout is confusing me, it’s a bit different to the ‘Pink’ one & I’m easily muddled. 🙂

Love the new picture!!! As for the format- don’t even get me started. I tried three, could work none of them, and felt terribly pleased with myself for managing to semi-figure out this one. I’m going to give it a few days and if it’s too much of a hassle I’ll go back to the simple version 🙂

You’re so sweet to ask. Things are going well. I enjoy the city life, though I do miss the quiet of the country life. It’s terrific not to have to drive more than an hour to see the doctor, and to simply walk to the market.
